I just stood there when Camilla ran off and left me on the doorstep of Nonnatus House. I felt numb, and my feet kept me planted there unable to really comprehend how it all came about. I had to steady myself as I felt Nurse Franklin touching my shoulder with such kindness. "Peter, you alright? You look million miles away." she asks.

I blink to clear my vision as I felt tears stinging my eyes. Her smile fades and a new look appears with worry. "Peter, what is wrong?" her voice is level, and soft, she knows how to always show concern with anyone and that's what I like about her. I'm not sure if my voice would work but it does as I spoke I sounded different. "She packed me in." and I turn to head down the stairs leaving the blonde atop of the stairs wondering what just happened.

I didn't want to enter my flat, not just yet, so I took to wondering the city alone; I would go to all the areas in the city we've been to. Where I kissed her, where we sat under the tree watching the river pulsate through the city it was calming for us. As I sat on our bench I felt the ring box inside my coat pocket, I pull it out and flip the lid open; it was a simple ring, nothing fancy. I stared at it for a while. Not sure what to do with it. I had planned on asking after the tea. I had planned on actually going down on one knee.

I snap the lid shut, I nearly threw it into the river when I heard a voice.

"Peter, you will regret it."

The voice was Trixie's and I saw her before me, now out of her uniform, she wore a yellow jumper, and black slacks. I didn't want to speak with her but she stood there not moving a muscle. "Peter, please." Her voice was soft like before on the steps of Nonnatus. "I will not leave until you speak with me."

I offer her the spot next to me. I like Trixie; I've known her the longest since she's joined the nuns at Nonnatus House. She sat there silent and waits for when I am ready to speak. She lights a fag, and offers one, but I refuse as I don't smoke. "Peter, what happened?" So, I told her everything right up to when she came to the steps. I don't know how she did it, but convincing me to keep the ring was the right thing to do. I really hope she was right. Trixie smiles her smile, dimples showing. "Do you love her Peter?"

"I told her two weeks ago." I hadn't told anyone else how I felt about Camilla until now.

"Peter, keep the ring." She takes one last puff of her fag then tosses into the river. Her hand covers mine for a second, "Just hold on Peter, it will happen! I promise."

So I did!

The End!
