Percy sat in the car, his mind whirling. Today was the big day! He was finally proposing to Annabeth. After knowing each other for ten years and dating for five, he thought she could never refuse! But there was always that chance… Stop thinking about it! He thought, itching to call Grover for the millionth time that day, and ask him how he had done it. He hoped that his wedding would go as smoothly as Grover's had, and hoped that he would be just as happy. Heck, he thought, I should be happy I'm still alive! But his brain always came back to the question, Will she accept?

Annabeth checked her watch. Percy was always late, but he had sounded nervous on the phone, so she had expected him to be waiting. Just as she was about to call him, he burst through the apartment door, soaked with rain. "Hi Annabeth," He said, "Sorry I'm late."

"Its okay, you'd think I was used to it by now."

"Well, that doesn't stop me from being sorry, does it?" he said, kissing her on the cheek.

"So, is there something going on today?"

"Nothing special," he took a deep breath, 'this is it' he thought,

"Annabeth Chase, will you—"

A rumble shook the building.

"Great," he thought, "Just the right moment."

Instinctively, Percy and Annabeth drew their weapons. They ran out onto the fire escape, which a gradually louder hiss was emanating from. They looked down to see a giant, green woman with snakes for legs. It was a dracaena, coming at them as fast as it could, considering the problem with stairs and snakes. It was a minor monster, no problem. The two didn't even need to talk; they knew each other's moves so well. Percy blinded it by shooting saltwater in its eyes, while Annabeth threw her knife with perfect aim, hitting it straight in between the eyes. It disintegrated, dropping her knife to the ground far below. Considering they lived on the twentieth floor, it was a long way down, but they enjoyed the exercise in companionable silence. Both of them reached for the knife and their heads collided. They collapsed in a heap, laughing.

"Nice move, Seaweed brain!"

"Not too bad yourself, Wise girl."They trooped back up the stairs.

"You know," Annabeth said,"This is the same day we first met each other, back then when we were twelve."

"Yeah. A lot has happened since then."

"You can say that again!"

When they reached the top of the stairs, Percy had no nerves left.

"Annabeth Chase, will you marry me?"

She leaned forward, and they kissed.

"I thought you'd never ask,"she said,

"Seaweed brain!" She added in a whisper.
