Summary: The end of The Last Battle depicts many joyous reunions. One such reunion is just a little different from the rest.
The four Pevensies and the others were filled with the most golden joy as they watched old friends and many others from the history of Narnia appear within the garden walls. The very air was happiness, and it coursed through the bodies of all. Kings Lune and Cor and Queen Aravis had just arrived, and, soon after, Prince Corin and the two horses, all of Archenland. As Lucy watched the reunions, she couldn't help feeling that some Narnian thing was missing; something that had been more a part of her than anything else in that land. Then she heard it: two hoof beats, muffled by the lush grass, behind her. It could easily have been a horse, or a centaur, or any other hoofed being, but her heart knew the presence at her back as well as it knew the presence of Aslan. And while the other reunions that could be witnessed within the walls were accompanied by such yelling and laughing and leaping and embracing, all this show did not match the power of the utter stillness that surrounded the two figures as their eyes met. No words were spoken: they were not needed. The world around them was silent, and for a moment or two there was no one in it but them. As they broke into full smiles and ran to embrace each other, the spell that had encircled them was not broken, but completed.
