EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON

Chapter 1

It's been five weeks since prom night, a four-month-old secret, three days since her divorce got finalized, two hours since she woke from her 'slumber' and one realization that the man that used to sleep next to her for eleven, almost twelve years is no longer hers. It breaks everything in her to pieces, also feeling like her time breathing is over, and yet she's still in Seattle hoping that she will get to tell him the news that would change their lives forever. She had never liked Seattle, not just for its weather but for many other things that comes with it, especially as it's a reminder that her Derek is gone, changed in a way that seems like he's a completely different person.

She was walking with Mark, him trying to tell her something about wanting her or loving her, but she's not really paying any attention to anything as she continuously walks down the hall. As they reach the part of the hospital near the stairs and one of the nurse's station, she heard someone clearing up their stomach, and it was Meredith. She also noticed Derek rushing down the stairs to check on her.

"Great! An adulterous love child!" She blurted out. She couldn't believe that she just said that out loud. That's so low of her.

"It's a perfect fit for an Adulterous wife, don't you think?" Derek told her while keeping a fast pace to get to Meredith.

Derek and Christina helped Meredith to get to an exam room to get some tests, looking worry some for someone they care and love. 'Wonderful' Addison thought to herself. 'Can't her life get any more complicated than it already is?' Now looking down as she walks away from the scene.

6 weeks and 4 days ago (flashback before prom)

"I want you to check this and put a rush on it as well," Addison ordered one of the lab techs.

"Yes, Dr. Montgomery-Shepherd" the lab tech replied. "Uhmm doctor, wait... you forgot who's test it is for." He told her.

Addison wanted to lie and tell him that it's for one of her patients, but she's too preoccupied with her problems with Derek and too exhausted to even lie. Instead, she replied with "it's mine, but I trust you not to tell anyone. Please." She sounded begging for the secret that she hopes would change her life for the better until she decides when it won't be a secret anymore.

He simply nodded at her and she noticed that he has the look of an understanding of what she's trying to tell him. With that, she felt at ease that he won't spread and start rumors, very well aware that there are ears and mouths attached to the walls of this hospital. She has a hunch that she already knows what is medically wrong with her, but the test will make it official.

Hours had passed, and she was paged to go to the lab to pick up her results.

"Thanks." She told that same guy that she talked to earlier.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone" he assured Addison with a genuine smile.

She smiled back at him grateful for being one of the few people that have actually been nice to her in Seattle. She looked at the results and with that, her life changed in just a few pages of paper, also feeling a single tear crawl down her right cheek. She's happy and this should be a happy chapter of her life, but with what's happening with her and Derek at the moment, she didn't know what to do but hope for the best. She wants this to change for the best. But she hasn't been sure about anything lately.

She's walking slowly when she saw Derek walking towards her direction.

"Hey Addison, I need you to come with me and talk to one of my patient's family" he commanded her.

"Derek, I'm not really feeling well right now." She simply replied.

"Addison, they want to use their daughter's brain-dead body as an incubator for her unborn child and..."

She didn't let him finish as she knows he'll win anyway so she just gave up and said," fine, but can we talk then?"

"Yeah, whatever," Derek told her and they started to walk towards the patients' room.

After they talk to the patients' family about how the baby will have to be taken out as their daughter is already brain dead, they both walked out. Addison is exhausted and hungry for a sincere talk with her husband. She grabbed his hand gently and turn him around to face her.

"Derek" she looked at her husband with a serious look, but you can also see the dark circles just below her eyes. Even after she applied thick amounts of make-up to hide her obvious sign of restless nights, she failed to do so.

"What do you want Addison?!" It didn't sound like a question. It's sounded more like 'I don't have time to talk to you Addison so please tell me to go away and not bother me again!'

She was furious wanting for her husband to care so much that she broke down "I want you to look at me, Derek! To really look at me and talk to me! I want you to CARE! and I guess it's not going to happen because I'M NOT MEREDITH GREY!" She yelled.

He just looked at her feeling annoyed and looked over the balcony.

She also looked curious about why he looked down there. 'Damn!' She said to herself. There were many people downstairs listening to the "Shepherds," but she didn't really care on who they were. Although One stood out, a blonde hair and a very, very hot topic for 'the love of her life' and also the deadliest for her. It was Meredith Grey.

'I can't compete with her' was the first thing that she thought about after the scene. She didn't even notice Derek walking away from her, leaving her alone to feel all the silent judgments that are being thrown at her.

She felt a stab at her heart as she tries to adjust to a situation where she already wants to slowly give up her life and Derek. However, there is one more thing that is keeping her feet still on the ground. And with that, she stands tall and walked away from the peering eyes of the crowd.

2 days after her meltdown (flashback before prom)

She's walking to the surgical board and she saw Derek already there looking at his schedule. She hesitated at first on whether she's ready for him to shoo her away, or she would eat her shame and just walk over there. While having a dilemma, she didn't have time to think and just decided to walk towards the board.

"Hi!" She started. Derek looked at her. This time not with a glaring stare but just a normal look. 'That's good' she thought before adding "Sorry about... the scene I've caused a couple of days ago...I never meant to start another gossip mill about you with the wicked witch of the east..." and she looked down preparing for him to yell at her.

"I'm sorry for not paying attention to my wife" he apologized.

With that, she looked up not believing what she's hearing. He called her 'his wife' that's a good start.

"And there's this prom thing going on for the chief's niece" he continued "I was wondering if you would want to come with me?"

She felt like a high schooler once again, but this time a million times better as her husband is wanting to go out with her in public. She smiled so wide and said, "I would love to" She was feeling ecstatic, sensing that the prom would be a good night to tell him her great news. And everything will be alright for them!

(End of flashback)

Or so she thought. However, just two days after Derek asked her to prom, what she thought would prosper suddenly all went downhill from there. As prom was probably one of her worst nightmares that caused the death of her. At least dead inside. For now.
