it felt forever when i lit you,
waiting for the fire to come out
and my wishes to come true.
a prayer presented in a carved candle,
dripping slowly, like tears on my face,
until it was blown out by time.
i kept the wax in a box,
the wick was lost in smoke and flame;
the box lost beneath the kingdom of dreams.
it was everything before i came to know you,
to listen you talk about herbs and plants.
the candle served its purpose; it brought a friend.
now, we're moving together.
the room i had as a child was cleaned
and then i found the melted wax.
opening the lid of the box, painted brown by time,
i saw what remained of a wish
turned into reality by you.
witchcraft is on my hands, my wand, my mind;
but love is only here because of you.
i asked for a friend, not for romance.
the candle brought both.
