I loved the Meggie/Doria in 'Inkdeath' because personally, I was sick of Farid, but I still cling to the ol' classic Meggie/Farid ship. The band's still playing there, even if it's a different tune. In the end, I felt bad for Farid. He sorta got shafted. Here's a bit of Meggie/Farid, anywhere from five to fifteen years later.

happy endings go up in smoke

and there was the boy with the too-beautiful eyes who had been

wandering for too long.

they said many things

said he had enchanted a thousand hearts with his tricks

had won the hearts of a thousand woman with his face

but she was the first and the only

who knew him;

so he came to her

with a burn, expecting her

to fix it

(he wasn't supposed to burn)

she hadn't seen him for so long-

the words on lips seemed to paint their own pictures:

you are not a married woman you are not even

a woman anymore,

you are a girl over again for first love heat like spring

somewhere in the wrapping they lean

too close;

he is on her mouth

she is tasting him

they are rubbing, sparking

but in the end they still burn

ashes collect for they are only man and woman.

his eyes don't fully cool so they have to wander again

while she stays and whispers quietly

to herself
