Well, after watching Infinity War, I decided to do Marvel, well first it was Avengers Assemble but I thought, why not add more characters to the whole story, so I created some and put the timeline in place so I know the events. I honestly hope you enjoy this story. Let's get started. Disclaimer, I don't own Captain America The First Avenger, only my ocs and own plotlines.

This story is about a legend. Well, correction, not me precisely, I'm not him. I'm one of his best friends, of the legend Captain America, a.k.a Steve Rogers. My name is Alexander Green, and you will be known of the tale of Captain America, God's righteous man, through the eyes of one of his best friends and how he became this person. Because in my opinion, he was a good man before he became the legend.

1941

I sit in a enrollment facility in New York, my best friend, Steve Rogers at my side, holding a news paper up. I'm enlisting into the army today, I haven't seen our other best friend, Bucky in a while, he has been training, he has been accepted a while ago now, which Steve is now even more eager to get in, despite his health issues and size. I'm slightly shorter than Bucky but a bit taller than Steve. My hair is Strawberry blonde and my piercing blue eyes make women go over me. But they are not for me. I just want to fight and protect the world, without killing anyone, but I doubt that.

"O'Connel, Michael." The Doctor calls and the guy stands up and walks in a queue. "Kaminsky, Henry." He calls and that guy does the same.

"Boy, a lot of guys getting killed over there." Steve points out to me and I look at the paper and see the figures. My eyes widen at the amount and I take a deep breath.

"It's war." I mutter. Steve glances at me.

"Rogers, Steven." The doctor calls out and Steve puts the newspaper down.

"It kind of makes you think twice about enlisting, huh?" Another guy says to him.

"Nope." Steve says and I roll my eyes. Bucky is gonna kill me. He's been doing this for a while.

"Green, Alexander." He calls and I stand up, half naked, behind Steve.

"Rogers. What did your father die of?" The doctor questions him.

"Mustard gas. He was in the hundred and seventh infantry. I was hoping I could be assigned -

The doctor interrupts him. "Your mother?" He questions.

"She was a nurse in a TB ward. Got hit, couldn't shake it." Steve voices and I know he is being desperate to be enlisted. The doctor looks over the file, his health issues are not allowing him to be a part of the army, plus his size most likely.

"Sorry, son." The doctor tells him and I cringe at the tone.

"Look, just give me a chance." Steve begs him.

"You'd be ineligible on your asthma alone." The doctor points out to him, not bothering trying to put it lightly.

"Is there anything you can do?" Steve questions him, I can already tell that he is pleading with his eyes.

"I'm doing it. I'm saving your life." The doctor says and stamps a card. I sigh, knowing it will say 4F.

Steve leaves the queue solemnly and I walk up to the counter next.

"Green. What did your father die of?" The doctor questions me, not looking up, reading my file.

"Front lines, sir." I answer.

"Mother?" He questions me and I take a deep breath.

"Suicide." I answer, trying not to think about her.

He glances at me, but my face shows no emotion and he seems surprised by it.

"Well done, Green." He tells me an stamps the card. IA. Bold and showing the world. "Find a uniform your size, you'll be contacted for training by tonight." He informs me and hands me the card and I walk out of line. I look through the spare and grab some uniform my size and change in a private room.

I don't brag to Steve about it, I know he isn't happy about not getting in... again. So we went to a movie instead. Currently, a commercial about the war is playing on screen.

"War continues to ravage Europe. But help is on the way. Everybable-bodied young man is lining up to serve his country. Even little Timmy is doing his part collecting scrap metal. Nice work, Timmy!" The commercial says, as a little boy is shown on screen. Grabbing metal from a huge pile.

"Who cares? Play the movie already!" A jerk in front of us exclaims and I squeeze my fist in a tight ball. Everyone looks at him but doesn't say anything, some women with tissues in their hands tighten but just ignore him.

"Hey, you wanna show some respect?" Steve suggests to the guy quietly and I sigh. Here we go. It's going to be a fight now.

"Shut up, man." I tell the guy in front of us. But he doesn't listen.

"Meanwhile, overseas, our brave boys are showing the Axis powers that the price freedom is never too high." The commercial guy's voice comes through again. Showing injured people in stretchers.

"Let's go! Get on with it! Hey, just start the cartoon!" The jerk shouts again, in disrespect.

"Hey buddy, you wanna shut up?!" Steve snaps at the guy. The guy gets up and looks at him, I see Steve slouch down and gulp but I stand up and glare at him.

"Together with allied forces, we'll face any threat, no matter the size." The commercial comes through in the back ground but I don't pay attention.

I was trying to tell the jerk it was me who snapped at him but I know he doesn't believe it when he drags me and Steve out of the cinema and into an alley. The guy pushes Steve onto the floor, I swing around and punch the guy in the nose but he punches me back and pushes me into a wall, causing me to hit my head on the brick.

Steve gets up and tries to hit him but he punches him again, he picks up a garbage can lid and holds it up in defence, like a shield. I stand up slowly and get ready to punch him but the guy grabs the shield out of his grasp, hits me over the head with it, I collapse to the floor, my vision going slightly blurry and he drops the lid to the floor next to me. He punches Steve again but Steve doesn't back down. He gets ready to fight again and I feel my head and remove my hand and see a little bit of blood there. Great.

"You just don't know when to give up, do you?" The jerk asks him.

"I can do this all day." Steve responds and goes to attack the guy again but he catches his fist and pushes him into the bins.

"Hey! Pick on someone your own size." I hear Bucky's voice and I look up to see him punch the guy in the face and kick him from behind and he runs off.

I get up and lean on the wall, and Steve gets up as well.

"Sometimes, I think you like getting punched." Bucky tells him.

"I had him on the ropes." Steve defends himself. Bucky picks something up off the floor.

"How many times is this?" Bucky questions him and reads something. "Oh, you're from Paramus now? You know it's illegal to lie on the enlistment form. And seriously, New Jersey?"

"You got your orders?" Steve questions him, getting straight to the point. Not bothering to answer his questions.

"The one-o-seventh. Sergeant James Barnes. Shipping out for England first thing tomorrow." Bucky tells us proudly.

"Well done." I voice and Bucky nods at me, he notices the blood on my head.

"Seriously? You too?" He exclaims and I give him a sheepish smile.

"I tried to get him to fight me but ended up against a garbage can. It won." I tell him jokingly and he shakes his head.

"I should be going." Steve announces, getting back on topic.

"Come on, man." Bucky says and grabs Steve and pulls me along with him. "My last night! Gotta get you both cleaned up."

"Why? Where are we going?" Steve questions him and I furrow my brows.

"Wait, why?" I ask.

"The future." He answers and hands us the newspaper he was holding. Steve opens it and I read the ad for World Exposition Of Tomorrow, 1943.

Expo

The lights illuminate the sky of the Expo. It looks really cool. Bucky leading the way in his uniform, as do I. But not my Sergeant uniform, only my plain uniform.

"I don't see what the problem is. You're about to be the last eligible man in New York. You know, there's three and a half million women here." Bucky points out to him and I roll my eyes.

"Well, I'd settle for just one." Steve informs him and I nod.

"Good thing I took care of that." Bucky tells him and waves to two women.

"Hey, Bucky!" A woman calls and I frown.

"Where's my date?" I ask him playfully.

"Non-existent." Bucky replies swiftly and I laugh, Steve joins in with our banter.

"He's not wrong." Steve adds and I laugh. "What did you tell her about me?" Steve questions Bucky.

"Only the good stuff." Bucky responds and I smirk.

"To them, I have a girlfriend." I tell them and they nod, knowing one of them will try to get with me but Steve deserves someone, Bucky gives out a chuckle. We meet up with them and we go to one of the buildings.

"Welcome to the Modern Marvels Paviliion and the World Of Tomorrow. A greater world. A better world." An announcer said and one of the girls gasps. Connie I think her name is.

"Oh, my God! It's starting!" She exclaims and we run in and manage to sneak to the front.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Howard Stark!" The woman announces and the man himself enters the stage and kisses her. Wow, ok.

"I love you, Howard!" A woman in the crowd shouts out.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile won't even have to touch the ground at all." Howard tells the audience and my eyes widen. How's that possible?

The women on the stage take the wheels off the car that is on the stage.

"Yes. Thanks, Mandy." Howard says to the woman, moving the stand so she can get through. "With Stark robotic reversion technology, you'll be able to do just that." Howard tells us and presses a button on a machine and the car starts to hover off the ground.

"Holy cow." Bucky murmurs and I smile at the sight. Wow, that's amazing.

They suddenly spark up and fall back on stage. Well, I'm glad that's not my car.

"I did say a few years, didn't I?" Howard jokes and we all laugh.

"Hey, Steve, what do you say we treat these girls..." Bucky drawls out and I turn to see Steve not there. But I see a recruitment poster and groan. I look at Bucky, both of us having the same idea. We know where he has gone. We find Steve standing in front of a mirror, but too short to fill the face.

"Come on. You're kind of missing the point of a double date. We're taking the girls dancing." Bucky tells him.

"I'm not." I intervene and Bucky gives me a look.

"You go ahead. I'll catch up with you." Steve tells him.

Bucky sighs. "You're really gonna do this again?" Knowing that Steve will get rejected... once again.

"Well, it's a fair. I'm gonna try my luck." Steve points out.

"As who? Steve from Ohio? They'll catch you. Or worse, they'll actually take you." Bucky points out to him, concern laced in his face.

"Steve, if they find out that you lied you're gonna be in trouble we won't be able to get you out from." I try to tell him gently, without getting him worked up.

"Look, I know you both don't think I can do this." Steve starts but Bucky interrupts him.

"This isn't a back alley, Steve. It's war!" Bucky snaps. Great, the argument is starting.

"I know it's a war. You don't have to tell me." Steve reminds him, obviously feeling like a kid.

"Why are you so keen to fight? There are so many important jobs." Bucky tries to tell him.

"What am I gonna do? Collect scrap metal..."

"Yes!" Bucky cuts in.

"... in my little red wagon." Steve finishes, ignoring Bucky's input.

"Why not?" Bucky snaps.

"I'm not gonna sit in a factory, Bucky." Steve tells him.

"I don't..." Bucky starts but Steve interrupts him.

"Bucky, come on! There are men laying down their lives. I got no right to do any less than them. That's what you don't understand. This isn't about me." Steve reasons with him.

"Right. Cause you got nothing to prove." Bucky mutters.

"Hey, Sarge! Are we going dancing?" One of the girls asks.

Bucky turns to them. "Yes, we are." He tells them and back to Steve. "Don't do anything stupid until I get back."

"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." Steve puts out there and I stifle a laugh. They're gonna hug soon.

"You're a punk." Bucky says and walks back to us and hugs Steve.

"Jerk. Be careful." Steve tells him.

Bucky hugs me and I return it.

"Try not to be a punk out there." I joke with him and he pats my back.

"No promises." Bucky mutters with a laugh. Bucky walks away.

"Don't win the war till I get there!" Steve shouts to him and Bucky turns and salutes us and walks away. "Come on girls. They're playing our song." We just barely hear him and we walk in.

I'm gonna keep an eye on him in case he does something stupid. Even though he is older than me by a month, it feels like I'm older than him by his idiotic decisions.

I wait outside while Steve gets seen to. I see a man with a young pretty woman talking with a nurse before he points to the room where Steve is getting seen to and my eyes widen, a soldier is by their side. How on Earth am I gonna save him from this? Come on, think. I see the nurse go inside before she comes out with the doctor. The soldier goes in and eventually the man and the pretty woman go inside. The soldier comes out and waits by the doors of the room. Shall I distract him? No, I'll be put into jail too.

Eventually the man and woman come out with Steve in tow and I sit up. Please don't be getting arrested.

"Only a chance." I hear the doctor say and I stand near them, keeping a good distance but still within ear shot. The woman looks at me and I give a small smile, she returns it shyly.

"I'll take it." Steve says immediately.

"Good. So where is the little guy actually from?" The doctor asks him.

"Brooklyn." He answers him. The doctor stamps his form and hands him back his file.

"Congratulations, soldier." He says and walks away, the woman following behind, but not before giving me a long look before she goes out of sight as well as the man.

I walk to Steve and see IA stamped on his form and I smile.

"So, you've been accepted then." I say and Steve looks at me.

"Yeah." He breathes out and I pat him lightly on the back.

"Well done." I congratulate him.

Next Day at training camp, New Jersey

We stand in line with other soldiers, I'm standing right next to Steve.

"Recruits, attention!" A woman's British authoritive voice cuts through the chatter and we all stand still and go silent. "Gentlemen, I'm Agent Carter and this is Agent Sanders. I superse all operations for this division."

I look up and recognise the woman from the Expo recruiting office there, looking at me and I look straight ahead again after giving her a smile.

"What's with the accent, Queen Victoria? Thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army." A man voices from the line and we all look to the guy.

Agent Peggy Carter goes in front of him. "What's your name, soldier?" She questions him.

"Gilmore Hodge, your Majesty." He mocks.

"Step forward, Hodge." Carter orders and I see Agent Sanders has a smirk on her face. Hodge did what he's told.

"Put your right foot forward." She orders him.

"Mmm.. We gonna wrassle? Cause I got a few moves I know you'll like." Hodge says and I scrunch my face up in disgust.

All of a sudden, she punches him in the face and he drops to the floor.

We all laugh and I give a chuckle. That was amazing.

The Colonel drives up and comes to us and I straighten up.

"Agent Carter." He greets and she swiftly turns and salutes him. "Agent Sanders." He nods at her and she salutes him.

"Colonel Phillips." Both greet at the same time, an American and British accent mixed together.

"I see you're breaking in the candidates. That's good!" He praises Agent Carter and he looks down at Hodge who is still on the floor. "Get your ass up out of that dirt and stand in that line at attention till somebody comes tells you what to do."

Hodge gets up. "Yes, sir." He says, sniffling and a smile plasters my face.

"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men..." Colonel Phillips pauses as he looks at Steve. "And because they're gonna get better. Much better. The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an Allied effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man. At the end of this week we will choose that man. He will be the first in a new breed of super soldiers." Colonel says.

Flash forward

I'm climbing a rope wall, next to Steve and a guy kicks Steve, he loses balance and drops down but his legs get tangled and I glare at the guy, laughter echoes around the camp. I climb up the top and climb over and manage to hop down.

"Break!" Colonel Phillip's voice breaks though the crowd and we all take a break. They are still untangeling Steve while I sip boiled water and grimace. Agent Sanders comes to me.

"Agent Sanders." I greet but she laughs and I'm struck with her laugh. It sounds so right for her.

"No, please, Edith is fine." She corrects me and I laugh.

"Alexander Green." I introduce myself, holding a hand out and she shakes it.

"It's a pleasure. Your friend... Rogers... he's having a tough time." She tries to break it down to me slowly and I nod in agreement.

"Yeah... but he's too damn stubborn to back out." I inform her and she nods.

"Ah. Makes sense. Reminds me of my father." She says softly and I glance at her.

"Break over, ladies!" Peggy's voice cuts through and Steve quickly takes a gulp of water before he walks away with the others.

"I'll talk to you later?" I offer and she laughs lightly.

"Of course." She agrees and I jog to catch up to them.

Next we are crawling unber barbed wire with rifles, getting used to the different conditions. Steve is struggling and I see the guy kick the post down and he ends up stuck.

"Rogers! Get that rifle out of the mud!" Sergeant Duffy shouts and I cringe.

Flash back

"And they, will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of Hell." He finishes and we all nod. "Let's move." He orders and we all get ready for the first obstacle... or really trial.

I feel eyes on me and I glance to see Agent Sanders looking at me, she notices me looking at her and she looks away, blushing slightly.

Flash forward

I'm teamed up with some guy, in tows running up to a jeep with a waiting Peggy and Edith inside and a flag pole on the side.

"Pick up the pace, ladies! Let's go! Double time! Come on! Faster! Faster! Move! Move!" Duffy demands and we arrive at the flag pole, my breathing getting heavy from the running, especially with really heavy gear. "Squad, halt!" He orders and we do as he says. He looks at the flagpole. "Tha flag means we're only at the halfway point. First man to bring it to me gets a ride back with Agent Carter and Agent Sanders. Move, move!" He demands and they all rush like dogs, except me.

I breathe heavily as they rush to climb it. I'm gonna speak to Edith later on anyway.

"Come on! Get up there!" Some guys shouted out.

One soldier tries to climb up but to no avail. "If that's all you got, this army's in trouble!" Duffy shouts out, pushing the soldiers to climb it to ride with the ladies. Hodge goes next and he ends up halfway. "Get up there, Hodge!" He encourages but he falls back down. "Come on! Get up there! Nobody's got that flag in 17 years!" He says proudly. "Now fall back into line! Come on, fall in! Let's go! Get back into formation!" He orders and we all line up. I see him turn back. "Rogers! I said fall in!" He barks and I turn to see what my best friend is up to.

I watch as he pulls out a pin at the bottom and it falls to the floor. He picks up the flag and gives it to Duffy. "Thank you, sir." He says and I smile. He climbs into the car and they drive away. He deserved that.

After we got back we took a quick break and now we are doing push ups. My shirt is sweaty so I'm in my t-shirt. I've been in the gym recently so my muscles are probably showing. I breathe deeply as I'm doing push ups. My hands are now getting sweaty and gravel on them. Which is a pain.

"Faster, ladies! Come on. My grandmother has more life in her, God rest her soul. Move it!" Peggy orders and I hurry.

"Come on, ladies!" Edith orders us.

"Up." Peggy orders and we all hop up with a little bit of effort due to tiredness, Steve literally has to drag himself up. We do star jumps next.

"Come on, girls." Peggy barks again.

"Come on." Edith encourages us. I see her look at me and I smirk a little.

This week has been hell. Literally they are choosing today for the person to be the 'super soldier'.

The colonel throws something on the floor. "Grenade!" He shouts and we all run down. I see Steve jump on it. I'm gonna kill him.

"Get away! Get back!" Steve shouts and I move from where I took cover. Nothing happens.

"It was a dummy grenade. All clear. Back in formation." An officer commands.

"Is this a test?" Steve asks and I look at the Colonel and Dr. Erskine.

"He's still skinny." Colonel reminds him before walking off.

That's when I knew that they have chosen my best friend for the experiment tomorrow. He's gonna become the first Super Soldier. He's the right man for it.

Well, there you go. I hope you enjoyed this first chapter because I enjoyed writing it. I'm gonna be doing the stories where I could put ocs in which is majority of the Marvel film base. All leading up to Infinity War. It took me around a month to get this all together (all ocs and back stories... etc.) Anyway, I hope you liked it and please leave a review, I would love to know what you think.
