Chapter One
As the dusky light drew down from the descending Sun onto the New York City streets, Veronica Mars sat in the back of a classic yellow cab texting her dad. She was reminding him of all the things that he sometimes tended to forget, his passport for example. For as great as a PI Keith Mars was he still had the ability to be absent minded about some things.
Veronica's smiled as her small nimble fingers quickly pressed the buttons on her cellphone. The trip to New York was a graduation gift from her dad, he was due to join her but unfortunately he had a few loose ends to tie up back at home. The last few weeks had been hell for Veronica, actually the past few years too but she as played with her phone she thought of the awesome things in her life. She had an amazing dad, loyal friends and she knew that after the last few years of murder mysteries and conspiracies that she had resilience enough to last her for a lifetime. Veronica didn't need to 'find' herself, she knew who she was and no one could take that away from her but boy was she happy to have a break.
Veronica was going to take the next 5 days to forget about Neptune, forget about Beaver and forget about Aaron Echols.
The cellphone vibrated with message from her dad.
'Don't worry about your old Pa I'm all locked and ready to go, enjoy the city and I'll see you tomorrow, love you kid'
After reading the text, Veronica smiled and placed the flip phone in her bag. As she looked up she caught the drivers eye, he was a middle aged man of Mediterranean of descent with a large curly beard. At first Veronica gave a polite smile but then she noticed he wasn't actually looking at her. Veronica turned to look out of the back window to see what he was focusing on but when she did, she saw nothing out of the ordinary. Veronica's spider senses began to tingle, something felt wrong. As she moved to turn her head back around she felt the car and herself flip over. Veronica felt the initial impact of the car hitting the ground just as her world went black.
