A/N: Just a suggestion, but "Fear and Loathing" by Marina and the Diamonds is perfect with this. xoxo
Nikki didn't feel like sweeping this burden under the rug any longer. It was draining and began to eat away at her. The situation hurt to the point where she felt like she was the reason why her parents would no longer be together. She thought that maybe if she hadn't been so rebellious over the years, her parents probably wouldn't have come into her room the other day to announce their separation. Maybe if she didn't get all those piercings and didn't dye her hair, she wouldn't feel like she was falling apart. Maybe if she made an effort to reach out more to her older sister, things would be better right now.
She was the type of girl who sometimes pretended or even forced herself not to care much, but the more and more it dawned on her that her parents were separating and inevitably divorcing from each other, it hurt. It wasn't like she didn't see it coming; the signs showed themselves for months. Her parents hardly spent any time together. Every time they even tried to start a conversation with each other, it soon turned into an argument that she could hear while hidden away in her room. Her parents even moved into separate rooms. Every sign of divorce reared its ugly head and Nikki saw each one. Too bad it didn't save her from any pain.
Nikki sat on her bed, taking shallow breaths after she began bawling her eyes out – not shedding a tear, not crying, but bawling. It was a matter of time before her body caved from all the stress that she was simply trying to brush off. Her hair was messy, her eyes became red, and her nose was sore. Reaching for her cell phone, she needed someone to clutch onto.
Meanwhile, Caitlin, who was curling her hair and singing some pop song, put her curling iron down and stopped singing after hearing her phone ring. She could barely recognize the voice on the other line.
"Caitlin, I don't think I can deal with this any longer,"the person's voice cracked.
"Nikki?" Caitlin was shocked once she realized who was speaking. "What's wrong?"
"It's a long story," she sniffled, "Do you think you can call the other girls and come over my house? It's an emergency."
Caitlin became worried. Nikki hardly–if ever–cried. That's how she knew whatever was going on was serious business.
"Okay, Nikki," she started, "I'll call them and we'll be right there."
A/N: I enjoyed writing this drabble so much. I wanted to give an inside look on what would be going on with Nikki later on during my 7teen story series. Marina and the Diamonds is a serious inspiration in my writing at the moment; her music is amazing. In addition, I want to thank Running For Anothers Dream for inspiring me to write this. She's a great writer and you should check out her stories and drabbles! Thanks so much!
