You gave me everything, I gave you nothing.

Garnet Til Alexandros stood in a tomb hidden deep within the confines of the castle. The most unsettling thing there in that dimly lit place was the tombstone that had her name engraved on it.

She read aloud from the words chiselled into the stone.

"Here lies Princess Garnet Til Alexandros
Beloved Daughter of Brahne and Locke Alexandros

May the angels keep her safe from harm,
May they hold her securely in their arms
May they please take on this chore,
Until we can guard her forever more"

The Queen almost felt like weeping.

She had only recently discovered that she had been adopted as a child.

Her real home was Madain Sari. During the destruction of the Summoner village the inhabitants fled in small boats, Garnet, who at that time was named Sarah, was carried across the ocean to ultimately end up in the docks of Alexandria's Castle.

Having just recently lost her child Queen Brahne, while in mourning took a walk to the docks. Just then Sarah's boat came to a stop. The young girl looked remarkably like her own daughter with the exception of the horn that protruded from her forehead. Brahne adopted the child. She then had the horn removed and raised Sarah in the place of her late child.

Sarah became Garnet.

"Garnet," Said the queen. "I often wonder how my life would have changed if it weren't for your death. Would I have had my great adventure? Would I still have fallen in love with Zidane or would the thief have stolen your heart?"

She ran her fingers across the tombstone's wording, once more reading the words as if she was savouring every syllable.

She felt guilty for this girl had given her everything and she could give nothing in return. The death of this girl had brought her wealth, fame, the love of a nation and at the end of it all the love of one man.

What did she have to offer? She could offer flowers to decorate the tomb but what good would that do? The girl had been dead for over a decade. The only thing she could do was honour the girl's memory.

As she stood there lost in thought a man crept up behind her.

"I thought I would find you here." He said.

Only one man had that gentle voice. "Zidane?" She asked.

He didn't answer he just walked to her and took her hand. He planted a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"Zidane, I'm sorry to ask this but do you think that we would have fallen in love if it weren't for Garnet's death?"

Zidane didn't waste anytime in replying, he didn't have to prepare his response as it came straight from the heart.

"Garnet, our love is so strong that nothing could have kept us apart. I came halfway across the world just to return to you. I need your love like I need air. No matter if the circumstances were different I'm sure that we would have found each other eventually."

Garnet rewarded her lover's kind word with a gentle kiss. "I thank you." She said. She released her hand from his.

"My mother's diaries state that Garnet's birthday is three days from now, I want to do something special."

"Why not have an annual holiday dedicated to her memory?" He asked.

"I was thinking the same," She then walked away. "Aren't you coming?" She asked as she stood in the doorway.

"I'll catch up with you."

Garnet walked away.

Zidane stood before the tombstone.

"Thank you princess." He said before running to catch up with his lover.
