"Maa, hold still, Naruto." There was a scary aura about the Copy-Nin as he eye-smiled, pinning his rambunctious former student's hand when he tried to form a familiar seal. "I just need your measurements about the shoulders. You've grown in the past two days."
Naruto flailed. "Sasuke, Sakura, Sai!" he called, gasping as he tried to struggle upwards and away from their mad former teacher. Alas, Kakashi was exerting roughly half of his genius on the issue of keeping Naruto pinned for the most accurate measurements, which was half more than usual and was only needed because Naruto had gotten quite powerful in the past few years. It was really quite an accomplishment. Few people nowadays were ever subjected to the force of Kakashi's attention. Fewer still would be actively trying to escape it, considering that he really only focused on anything if it was uncommonly interesting or life-threatening. And nobody knew what Kakashi was interested in. "Help!"
The three stood at the edge of the clearing, arms crossed. Well, Sasuke and Sakura's arms were crossed. Sai just smiled, standing to attention in Combat-Ready Pose #1495 (copyright Shimura Publishing, copyright Danzou). All of them were garbed in ridiculously ornate—and matching—embroidered outfits of varying color, with a very blatant henohenomoneji emblazoned on the back. "Sorry," Sakura said, not looking very sorry at all, probably because she knew that Kakashi tended to take the boys' measurements when they were asleep and this was revenge for that time last week when Naruto had showed Gai where the Copy-nin's apartment was. How did she know?
She had a standing appointment with her former sensei to get coffee and go fabric shopping every other Wednesday they were both in Konoha. A trickle of smugness filtered through her blank, unyielding expression at the thought that if they just asked, Kakashi would be more than willing to set up a time to measure them so that they wouldn't have to go through this whenever they did something stupid... but they hadn't. Sasuke eyed her suspiciously. She just raised an eyebrow at him, quickly smothering her overpowering feeling of triumph.
There were perks to being the favorite, shannaro.
"But this is the third time this week!" Naruto wailed, betrayed. "And there won't be any orange!"
Every outfit that Kakashi had made for him since he officially met the boy had pointedly been any and every shade except orange. Heck, he'd even been forced into a chartreuse monstrosity right before an escort mission! Shut up, Kurama! he hollered at the tailed beast inside his gut, who was far too amused at his predicament than any tailed beast had a right to be.
You complain now, but you're glowing, brat, Kurama rumbled, and Naruto felt more than saw the grin that was more akin to a trolling leer. Highly embarrassed, Naruto stuck his tongue out.
"BLEH!" He quickly withdrew it, not fancying the taste of grass.
"Oh, you don't know that, Naruto. Maybe he will, one of these days." Sakura gave into her urge to grin, not even minding the outfit any more.
After all, she was the only one who had seen Kakashi covertly purchase those wonderfully comfortable yards of orange fabric as he muttered to Pakkun about the future and Hokages and his absolute refusal to take the job himself.
Sasuke hnn'd disapprovingly at her.
