"You want to take the controls, Miss M?"
M'gann had heard what Nightwig had asked but her mind wouldn't let her respond. Artemis is alive. She could her Garfield, and apparently she was still basking in her glory.
She got Aqualad good. That's what her little brother was saying? Wasn't it? Yeah, real good, she added to herself sarcastically, her fist clenching in the fabric of her cape. The rest of the ride was tense and uncomfortable, at least for her.
When they arrive back at the hall, the team's temporary headquarters, Nightwing stopped M'gann from getting off the ship. "I need to talk to you, Alpha." he told her. By his tone the mission wasn't over. Not yet. L'gann stopped next to her and wrapped his arm around her waist. Nightwing glared at him, "Alone."
"Oh, c'mon Nightwing! Angelfish and I-"
"Lagoon Boy, leave."
"Neptune's beard!" the Atlantean grumbled, but followed his leader's instructions.
M'gann took a sudden interest in the bioship's chairs.
"So you got Aqualad good," he commented, his face blank of emotions and giving nothing away. This only made M'gann angry. "Did you retrieve any intel worth sharing?" He asked this so casually that it began to make the Martian before him sick to her stomach.
There was silence, and she could tell he was waiting on her to answer him.
"How could you..." she whispered quietly.
"You need to speak up M'g-"
"How could you!" She spat, her voice raising, almost to a yell. The raven haired boy noticed her eyes slowly going green.
Nightwing look into those glowing eyes, "How could I what, M'gann?" He knew what she was talking about, but she guessed she had to tell him exactly what she knew before he would provide any more details.
"Do not play stupid with me Nightwing. how could you let me, let all of us, think that she was killed? That Artemis, our friend, was dead?"
"Tell me exactly what you found out M'gann."
Her temper flared and she began to levitate above the ground, "I saw Kaldur fake stab her, I saw you, Wally, and Artemis in... some kind of warehouse. You gave her... some kind of necklace. I saw Kaldur hand you a flashdrive. I saw the four of you betraying us."
"M'gann, Artemis and Kaldur are under cover. They aren't betr-"
"No, Nightwing! Us. Connor and I. How could you keep this from us? Did you honestly think I wouldn't have found out?" She stopped for a minute, allowing her words to sink in before she continued, "I understand not telling the newbies, fine. But Connor and I? We were part of the original team too, why would not tell us? Why?' she demanded, her feet placed back down again as she took a step to glare up at him domino mask.
He looked completely unfazed by her emotions and reactions. "We didn't tell either of you because of the way you two were acting towards each other. Neither of you needed this responsibility on top of your breakup. We also..." He stopped suddenly, clearly thinking over his words. He was going to mention how the way she had been treating the enemy scared them, but decided against it. "with the sensitivity of the mission we collectively agreed the fewer people who knew the better. I didn't want Wally to even know, but Artemis had insisted. We are sorry, M'gann, but we did what we felt needed to be done."
M'gann stared at him in shock, "You could have told us." She repeated as she glared down at the ground, but she saw the logic behind his words even if she hated it.
Taking a deep breath she looked back up at him, a fierce look in her eyes had replaced her glare. "So now that I know... How can I help?" She had hurt Kaldur. She had bruised the trust between her and Artemis. She had scared them both. But she was going to fix her mistakes. She had too.
