During the short five-minute break between classes, Ila was pleasantly surprised when two familiar arms embraced her and the strength in them and the body they went with lifted her and spun her around.
"Ila, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Louie said while spinning her around. Her feet were a good foot off of the ground. "Because of your help, I did well on that mythological creatures test!"
Ila tried to focus on her friend's face so she wouldn't get dizzy.
"Oh really, Louie! That's wonderful."
The longhaired man stopped twirling her but still held her loosely in his arms. Louie looked at her with a big grin on his face.
She couldn't help but smile back; when Louie was happy he let everyone know it and if you helped bring about that happiness that was even better. She leaned into his chest and the world shrunk to her, him, and his jubilation. The other students moving around them didn't even register in her mind.
Ila put a hand on Louie's chest and craned her neck to look at him. "What did you get?"
"A C-plus! Oh man, I was so close to getting a B-minus."
The young female mage-in-training smirked. For all the celebrating she was expecting a B or better but Louie was getting Fs with the occasional D-minuses sprinkled in for variety.
"If you keep up the good work and studying, you'll be off of academic probation before you know it!"
"Yeah!" Louie whooped, hugging her tightly with one arm while he pumped his fist in the air.
The guild's bells chimed, letting the students know they only had 2 minutes left to get to their next class.
"Uh oh, I'm going to be late for Foltess' study hall!" Louie said, letting Ila go.
"You better hurry then. You know how strict Master Foltess is."
"Thanks again, Ila!"
She turned and watched Louie run to class. He barely avoided knocking the other students, who happened to be much smaller than him down. That made her chuckle.
If Louie showed that much affection with a C-plus what would he have done if he'd gotten an A? Ila tapped a finger against her full lower lip.
She saw many more study sessions with Louie in her future.
