Chapter 1:

Of course I would wake up an hour after I was supposed to on my first day at a new school. But it's not like moving from California to Pennsylvania isn't gonna make you tired, right? I looked around my room (nothing but boxes by the way), and finally found what I was looking for- my phone. I picked it up and read the time. 9:15? I had read somewhere that school started at 8. "Oh no."

I bolted from my bed and threw on the outfit I had picked out the night before- shorts, tank top and a jean jacket. After I was done getting dressed, I hurried into the bathroom to fix my hair and do my makeup. 15 minutes later, I was downstairs yelling for my mom to hurry up and get out of bed.

My mom walked down the stairs dragging my 7 year old brother Jordan behind her. "Mom, it's my first day and I'm late, this isn't a good sign..." I paced around the living room waiting for her to get her purse from the kitchen. My brother yawned and I stooped down to his level. "Sorry for waking you up dude. I'm just a little nervous for school." I sighed and he wrapped his small arms around my neck.

"You're gonna do great Lex," and I hugged him back right as my mom walked in carrying her purse. I grabbed his hand and lead them out the front door and into my mom's car.

We got to the school in a little under 10 minutes and once my mom pulled into then I jumped out of the car and stepped into the school's front office. They gave me my schedule and told me to explain to my teacher that I was a new student and that's why I was late. I walked through the double doors that lead to the school hallways and I sighed as I imagined the hard part- finding my first class. I was already an hour late, which meant that the hallways were empty and I couldn't stop anyone to ask for directions. I decided to wing it, so I took a deep breath and began wandering aimlessly around the school before I finally found the room I was looking for.
