"I don't mind spending every day, out on your corner in the pouring rain…"
The towns folk had been unkind to her today. She had insisted on going out alone, I'd warned her not to be so confident so soon. The people were still very angry. She came back with tears in her eyes and curse words thrown at her heart. I was angry that she had disobeyed me and put herself in danger, I was angry that I hadn't been there to protect her from their cruel words, I was angry that I cared so damn much. We argued, I was harsh, she was hostile, she packed a single case and fled out into the rain
"Look for the girl with the broken smile…"
I found her on the platform as the rain poured on, case in hand and mascara stained tears. I took her case and I took her hand and I was sorry and she knew it. I don't chase just anyone. She was no longer just anyone. She was my someone and parting this way was a huge mistake. I pulled her in and held her close and kissed her gently as the rain kept falling, as it washed away the past, the anger and the hate
"Ask her if she wants to stay a while…"
I asked her to come back, to come home. It would take some time for people to accept her but in time they would. I wasn't about to be without her again. Not ever. She was under my skin. They could hate her all they wanted but as soon as they opened their eyes they would love her too. Like I did, like I do.
"And she will be loved, and she will be loved…"
