Disclaimer: I own my words and the idea behind them, not the characters or premise.
A/N: So this looks like it'll be a series of oneshots based on the miniseries and any other episodes I happen to see. The miniseries had all these moments where I felt like there was way more behind them then was being shown, so some of them will be background information. And some scenes I really wanted to know what they were thinking. So some of these will be that. I have a page of notes waiting to be turned into fanfiction. Go me.
This is the scene where Lee comes back from the dead the first time. The way they delivered those first few lines made me feel like they'd had that conversation before, so here it is. This assumes they knew each other before she ever met Zak.
Graduation
"You actually managed to graduate without me being here to pull you through your classes?" The familiar mocking voice had her pausing, glass halfway to her lips. "I mean, honestly, Kara, how many professors did you have to blackmail to do that?"
She fought the urge to grab him and never let go, but managed to restrain herself to a smirk. "I thought you were stuck in war college."
"Well, I thought you were in hack." The corners of his lips twitched.
"It's good to be wrong." It was a little more revealing than she might have liked, but this was something of an emotional moment for her.
"You should be used to it by now." Now he was full on grinning.
"Everyone has a skill."
They stood there, smiling at each other like idiots, until Kara broke the silence.
"Who told you I was in hack?"
"Helo." He shrugged. "I recall something about a guy in a bar implying you slept your way into flight school."
"Ah." She shuffled her feet slightly. Lee was the only person who ever managed to embarrass her like that.
"With me, apparently." And out came the blush.
"Well, since it was so blatantly false, I just had to correct him." She shrugged and took a drink of her ambrosia. "Is it my fault he objected to his face running into my fist? And honestly," she continued, reaching out to gently punch his arm, "he obviously hasn't met you. If I'd used you to sleep my way into the Academy, you'd be a lot less uptight."
"Is that so." He was watching her with an unreadable smile on his face.
"Yup." Another drink. "So, I thought you weren't going to be here?"
"Gods, Kara, you really think I'd miss this? After the party you threw for me last year?" His smile graduated to the full flyboy grin. "Besides, I wanted to see if you'd show up naked or some other stupid stunt just to piss them all off one more time." His expression turned a little more serious. "Really, Kara, I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
And then she did hug him, because she was tipsy and he was so damn hot and he was also the last good man left in the Twelve Colonies and she just needed her best friend back.
And when he hugged her back, it was the first time she realized just how much in love with her best friend she was.
