*Ring*

"Ah, hello?"

Eijun was currently in the middle of practice when the call came. Hearing his phone ring from his duffel bag nearby, he risked a quick glance at his coach and decided he had enough spare time to answer a call from Miyuki.

"…Eijun?"

"Hey Miyuki, what's up? You don't usually call me in the middle of the day. Is something wrong?"

"No…I just wanted to see if you were slacking off. If you have time to answer my phone call you should be working twice as hard during practice."

Was it just him or did Miyuki's words come out a bit breathless? He wrote it off as him being tired.

"Making Japan's national baseball team, isn't that your dream?"

"Yeah, yeah. You called just so you can lecture me?" Eijun sounded a bit annoyed at this point.

"Well if you don't need anything else then I'll see you at home-"

"I love you,"

Eijun's eyes widened and now he was worried. Miyuki rarely said those three words. He heard them whispered when he thought Eijun was asleep, but never when he was conscious.

"…Eijun, I love you. I just want you to know that. Forever."

"Miyuki-"

"Call me Kazuya, just this once."

A subtle blush covered Eijun's face, "K-kazuya.. I love you too," he finally whispered. He heard a pained laugh on the other line. His coach finally turned his way and motioned for him to get back to practice. "You're not acting like your usual self. I have to go now, but I'll see you back at home, okay?"

"Alright, bye Sawamura Eijun. You were the best thing that ever happened to me.."

The line went still. Eijun tried not to think too much of the formal goodbye and chalked it up to Miyuki being sentimental. When Eijun finally got home from practice to an empty house he turned on the news and promptly froze.

"Prodigious Catcher Killed in a Hit and Run"

Seeing Miyuki lying lifelessly in the middle of the road, bleeding out snapped Eijun out of his stupor. The event happened at about 2 in the afternoon. Eijun quickly checked his call logs.

2:03pm

Miyuki Kazuya

Eijun dropped to his knees and wish he could go back. He knew something was up with Miyuki, yet he didn't do a single thing about it. He wished he said so much more, wished he had more time, wished he knew.
