The Time Paradox

By Gigawolf1

Fung Zhi Han was tired of his chores. As a student at the Xiaolin Temple, he had to work hard every day. His father was the Master of the temple. He and his fellow Xiaolin Monks had watched over the Temple for thousands of years. He remembered the tales of how a lowly smith from the nearby village (which had since been destroyed) had made the Shen Gong Wu, mystical objects with powers. As Han was destined to become head of the temple, he had to learn all about the Shen Gong Wu in case evil were to finally reveal itself. As a small child, his father had told him about the vault.

Suddenly, he thought he heard a cry from outside. It was a rare stormy night. He looked up, but then saw the temple guardian watching him. He knew that the dragon would report him to his father if he ever ignored his chores. He was a teenager, after all. But when he heard it again, he knew he was not imagining things. "Guardian, I hear something. May I see what it is?" asked Han.

"Go ahead. If your dad asks, I'll say you just needed a quick trip to the little monk's room, okay?" said Dojo. "And forget what your dad said. You shouldn't treat me any differently than you would any other friendly dragon. Just call me Dojo,"

"Thank you, Guar… Dojo," said Han. As he went to the entrance to the temple, he heard it louder against the roar of the thunder. Looking outside, he saw a small bundle of cloth. Looking within, he found a yellow baby, barely a month old. He brought the baby inside, and barely saw a note fluttering out of the blanket. It read, "The Lightning joins to create the Water, the Sea, Omi."

'Omi,' he thought. He had heard that babies were sometimes left on doorsteps, but never at the Xiaolin Temple, and especially not during such a storm. Entering the hall where his chores were, Dojo asked him what had happened. His response was expected.

"Some lunatic left a baby out there in that storm? Since when did people become so dumb?" asked Dojo. "So, you gonna name him?" he asked.

Han thought for a moment. "I will. I'll call him Omi," he said.

As his father came in, and was told what had happened, the Wind and the Fire turned. And as they used the Sands of Time, Master Fung began the rights to make Omi a Monk of the Xiaolin Temple.
