A Tired Line

"I know you're angry, but can we still be friends?" Archie asked.
Veronica stood up (attracting the attention of her fellow patrons at The Purple Monkey Coffee Shop) and turn a brilliant shade of fussier. In fact it was such an incredible shade of fussier that a make-up artist reproduce the shade for her make-up company, which would go on to be the lipstick color to wear in Paris.
"Can we still be friends? Archie, what kind of question is that? Archie, what the hell are you trying to pull? First you call our relationship a 'nice attempt' then you ask 'can we still be friends?' No Archie, we still 'can't be friends?' That sad line is best used when relationships run out steam despite the effort of both partners. That line is not to be used when one of the partners (that would be you, Archie) suddenly decides to reunite with his ex-girlfreind (that would be Betty) and call his current relationship 'a nice attempt, but not a real relationship'. I can't be your friend, and I don't think I can be Betty's friend either."
"Veronica, please sit down, you're attracting attention." Archie pleaded.
"That's not going to cut it. I love attention. You went to high school with me. You lived with me. Just be glad I'm not spelling you're personal secrets. You know a secret like the time you stole our teacher's panties off the clothesline on a dare and wore them for a week. Plus the fact that you eventually came to regard them as a good luck charm and probably are wearing them right now?" Veronica added with flourish as she walked out of The Purple Monkey Coffee Shop.
"She's kidding folks. Kidding." Archie tried to explain to the gawking coffee shop patrons.
"Can we still be friends? Hah! I bet Betty isn't pulling that line on Jughead!" Veronica muttered to herself as she drove away.
Actually:
Betty and Jughead sat in The Chocolate Palace.
"Juggie, I know you're angry, but can we still be friends?"
