Jack Skellington slowly approached the odd hill just outside of town- the graveyard hill. This place had always held a certain charm for him- the hill being well shaped, curved to the end, and a sturdy footing always in check even under all these wet sheets of snow. Magic and mystery cloaked the area if you only looked for it; and it was always the perfect spot to stop and think.

Resting upon his hill at the moment, however, was Sally, the Good Doctor's "daughter" of sorts. The rag doll seemed oddly content to just be sitting in the biting cold, and from what Jack could see a single dead flower lay in her hands. An odd feeling rustled within him, causing him to pause a few uncharacteristic times before approaching the majestic hillside and the sparkling enchantress atop. Jack exhaled in his mind: Sally…

Daring to break the sacred silence of the graveyard, Jack called to her:

"My dearest friend-"

Sally turned, her face a mixture of shock and…and happiness? Could it be? Brace yourself, Jack, he thought to himself. Breathe.

"- if you don't mind," he continued, reaching one hand out expressively towards the beautiful girl, "I'd like to join you by your side."

Sally stood slowly, a sort of peace settling in her usually anxious features. Jack felt himself soar with a sudden confidence as he looked into her eyes, making his long strides up the hill.

"Where we can gaze into the stars…"

A pause. "And sit together-" Sally spoke softly in return, though none the less nervously.

Surprised though he was, Jack smiled in relief as they both continued on, their voices barely rising above the wind's icy breeze:

"Now and forever. For it is plain as anyone can see…"

As Jack approached Sally, a warmth radiated from deep within. Long, bony hands held themselves in suspense and wait for Sally to join his in union. And when soft skin met his bony fingers Jack felt his spine tingle and head droop down in an almost reverent contentment. They stood side by side at last, hand in hand. Sally felt tears come to her eyes. Jack inched slightly closer, their bodies nearly touching.

"We're simply meant to be." They whispered, closing that fraction of a gap between them and wrapping their arms around each other in exhilaration.

Faces only inches apart, Jack leaned down and softly pressed his textured lips to Sally's in emotion, a sudden relief shrouding him as he finally realized that he was home. This is what he had truly missed all along and it was right in front of him the entire time!

Breaking the surreal kiss, Jack and Sally embraced under the Christmas Eve sky, joying in their newfound union. A warmth grew steadily within Sally's chest as she clutched Jack's tall frame to her body in completion. After all the time spent adoring him from afar she never believed her dream could become a reality! Jack smiled widely, almost grinning, his shaky breath painting ghost-like shadows of mist around them. Jack and Sally both chuckled disbelievingly.

Never would either be empty inside again.
