Ryan stood out looking at the sea of faces and took a deep breath.
"Today we are here to celebrate the life of an amazing man. This man tried to see the good in everyone and when I had no one he became the person I turned to and instead of just walking away which let's face it would have been much easier and cause him less gray hair, he came and took me into his home and even when he still could have just handed me off to be someone else's problem he didn't."
Ryan looked over at his wife, mom, children, nieces and nephews and siblings and the rest of his strange collection of family members. Collected over the years and mostly because of the man they were honoring today.
"Today we say goodbye to my Dad, sandy Cohen the man that face everything in life head on. My dad was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a great father to Seth, Sophie and Me over the years and listened to what we had to say even when we were wrong, which lets face it Seth and me, we were normal wrong.
"I remember the first time I called him dad, it really just kind of slipped out after he got in a fight with my biological father after dinner one night and hit him. However even after that it took me a while to call him dad on a regular basis. I really started calling kristian and Sandy, Mom and Dad after the soccer accident I had my Freshman year at Berkeley when I broken my leg and had to have surgery to pin the Fibula back together. I woke up from surgery and there they were siting beside my bed in recovery. Thats the moment that made it all real to me, the moment that showed that I might be 18 and not there responsibility anymore but they were still there to look after me. I mean I have been in the hospital many times in my life but as long as I can remember the only people ever siting there waiting for me to wake up was the Cohens".
"Over the Years there have been so many times that Dad could have given up on me and walked away with no one blaming him for it. I mean there was no reason he had to stick by me though all the fights in Newport or the time I was arrested for burning down the model home or even when I walked away after Marrisa's death and started cage fighting. But he didn't give up on me".
He looked out over the sea of faces until he found his brother and sister "Just like he never gave up on Seth when he started smoking pot or Soph when she started dying her hair and listening to heavy metal when she was in grade 10" he said with a smile.
Ryan then look over to his wife and kids, "I will never forget the day I got married he sat me down and explained exactly what he thought A good marriage took and then told me he thought that Anna and me had what I took to make it work". "And then they was the day that i told him i was going to become a dad, I was so scared that day i was convinced that i was going to be a horrible father, but he just reminded me of how good i was with Soph and my nieces and nephew, then he told me that when Seth was born he was a mess convinced that he was going to be just as bad as his father who was abusive and then finally left but then he went on to say that when he looked at his three kids he like to think he did all right and he was sure I would be to".
Ryan looked toward the coffin. "So this one is to the man who saved and raised me, my he rest in peace, I love you dad!".
As he finished his speech he could almost swear he heard his dad's voice saying "I guess you really do leave the talking until it counts".
