Summary: Rory comes back to find out that Jess has a girlfriend.
Chapter One: The Dream
The bells on the door of the diner chimed and Jess looked up from the toaster he was
fixing. Rory stood in the doorway, illuminated by the streetlight. For a moment Jess just
stared. Everything about her, it took his breath away.
They stood in silence for a few seconds as the door closed, blocking out the sound from
the street. Almost all the lights in the diner were off while Jess finished cleaning up.
"Hey."
Rory took a step towards Jess, moving out of the light and into the shadows. Jess
followed her with his eyes, dropping the rag he was holding onto the floor. She took
another step. Finally, she replied.
"Hi Jess."
There was something different about her. She was… she looked different. She moved
slowly, deliberately towards him. She was acting strange, and he didn't like it.
"You okay, Rory?"
She didn't answer. She was behind the counter now. She reached up and grabbed his
head, pulling it down to hers feircly.
The next thing Jess knew, her open mouth was on his, kissing him hungrily. Her hands
were running through his hair. Rory pulled away and whispered in his ear.
"Let's go upstairs."
She took Jess's hand and led him towards the stairs.
"Rory, wait!"
She ran up the stairs ahead of him and he followed. There was something about this he
didn't like. When he finally got to his room Rory was lying on his bed. He stared at her
for a moment, and she seemed to change. Her hair got blonder, her face got skinnier, and
her clothes disappeared.
"Damn!"
Jess sat up in bed, wiping the sweat off his forehead. It was the third time this week he'd
had that dream. What was that supposed to mean? Rory turning into Shane. He shook his
head and calmed down. He laid back down and fell asleep again.
