In an opera house kagura was singing when a thing fell and made her fall to the ground. When kagome's foster mom went over to see what fell besides the thing she saw a letter with a skull on it.
After the screaming went down kaede showed Ginta and Hakkaku the letter. It says kaede read out loud to leave box five empty for the phantom's purpose and he wants to remind you that his pay is due today for using his opera house. Ginta stopped kaede right there.
