Secrets

Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin. (There's something I've never said before...)

"Arthur... there's something I need to tell you."

"Don't bother, Merlin, I doubt it's more important than me fitting on the armour that I'll be wearing to the feast tonight."

Merlin sighed and shook his head; the movement not enough for the King to see, however. "It really is."

"Tell me, then. If I don't already know what it is, I may just faint in shock."

"Ha. You never would have guessed this, though. Your head's too small to have realised this." A small smile came onto his face as he teased Arthur; one that faded when he thought about the implications that telling him this could have. "I've got magic."

Arthur raised his eyebrows. "Really, Merlin? I never would have guessed that, not ever."

There was a pause as the young warlock let this sink in. "You mean... you knew?"

"Of course I did. How could I not? And keep your mouth shut – it's awful enough having to look at you on a daily basis, you don't have to make it even worse."

"But..."

Turning to face him, Arthur shook his head. "Honestly, Merlin. Something always seems to magically appear or do something just when I need it and it's always when you're around. Also, your eyes turn gold. That's the kind of thing I'd notice."

"Oh." Feeling a bit foolish, Merlin shrugged. "Well. I just thought you'd want to be... formally informed."

Smile playing on the King lips, he turned to look at Merlin. "I have been informed, then. Now, go polish my armour. Without magic." He gave him a stern look, before cracking a slightly sad smile. "Just remember; some people aren't as forgiving and accepting of your powers as I am."

"Of course." He gathered up the armour, smiling, and then walked out of the door with a small bow – he had to be sort of nice to Arthur, now he knew his secret properly. It would be too easy for him to chop Merlin's head off. Despite these thoughts, he felt as if a huge weight had been taken off his chest. Arthur knew his secret; he wouldn't have to hide from any of his close friends anymore.

A/N: Pretty rubbish. First proper Merlin fic; please take that into consideration. :3
