The moonlight peeked through cotton curtains as she lied there between his arms, her petite frame looked fragile as he held her in place. This wasn't odd, it was just that he hadn't gotten used to the closeness that they'd developed in the past couple of months. He still wasn't used to feeling her breath feathering the sensitive and mangled skin of his chest, or the way her hair would tickle his nostrils whenever she would snuggle closer for warmth, or the way her feet would knead on his thighs at random moments during the night.
He moved his hand through her back, tracing an imaginary line through her spine as he watched her skin flinch and the lean muscles under it moving encompass with his fingers, twitching under his touch and he chuckled. He felt her eyelashes flutter open as they caressed the stubble that was his beard and backed away, putting some distance between their faces and looking down on her, sapphires meeting tourmalines.
"What's so funny?" A small hand made its way up between them as she rubbed her eyes awake.
He took her image in and a grin spread on his face, "Nothing." He replied as she yawned, "It's just incredible to see your muscles twitch and flex under there." His fingers feathered her skin once again, getting the same reaction as before and this time she giggled.
"Go to sleep." She muttered, snuggling closer to him, kissing his chest and placing her hand over the straps that covered the big and deep scar that was over the left side of it.
He breathed her in, she smelled of violets and lavender, as he brought his left arm up taking her right hand into it and leaving it there where she had placed it as he looked at her, she had already closed her eyes, her appearance disheveled with her hair made a mess, the shirt she wore was at least three sizes bigger than it needed to be, so it would always end up riding up to reveal her abdomen and it was so loose around her neck that he could always see one of her shoulders. His eyes lingered on the milky skin that was revealed and his free hand roamed up to it tracing circles on her shoulder with his thumb as she hummed contently.
Who, in a thousand years, could've seen this coming? For him to be fortunate enough to run into someone like her. He chuckled, inwardly this time as he remembered his pursuit of that ephemeral thing called love and he smiled, knowing that it had come to an end.
His eyes were still glued to the skin there as the little light that leaked through curtains helped him reveal the many and tiny freckles that dusted her skin and he couldn't help himself as he dipped his head down and kissed her shoulder.
Life had it's ways of working itself out… It had just taken his almost two centuries but now that he looked at the woman that drifted off to sleep between his arms and the many things that had brought them closer, he wouldn't have it any other way. Life was worth the hell he had been through as long as he had Meryl Stryfe as his heaven.
A/N: This is my first, but probably not my last, fanfiction for this fandom. I'd seen Trigun when I was like 12 or maybe younger? Ever since I've rewatched it over a thousand times. I just love it! Anyhow, I hope you guys liked it! This little one shot was nothing but fluff, so sorry if you were expecting more from me (if you've been following me you know how spicy I like my fanfics.). Ja ne!
