A/N: All of a sudden this idea just popped into my head. I've never seen a story take on the angle of Derek moving on with his life with another man, it's always a woman. So I decided to take a swing at this angle. It's really a story more of how Spencer would feel about it. Oh well. Enough explaining. Tell me your thoughts. Dont forget to review. Thanks. XOXOXO
They had decided to call it quits a few weeks ago. Things were getting a little more complicated than it should have been. The stress of the job, the relationship, and trying to hide said relationship was too much of a strain. So for the good of the job and for the good of their friendship, they decided to go back to being just friends. It was hard at first, but after a while everything kinda fell back into the norm. Their friendship was always warm and playful, and it continued to be so, that is until Spencer saw something that shook him to his core.
Derek was flirting with another GUY! A guy. A man. He couldn't believe it. I guess he always felt that he was somehow that someone special in Derek's life, that no other man could get him to cross that same sex relationship line. He always felt that he was the exception. That Derek was basically a hetero man but he, Spencer Reid was the only man that even made him want to pursue a homosexual relationship. Maybe it was pride, or just some lofty idea that he alone would be the only man in Derek's life that way. But when he saw Derek walking down the hall with one of his self defense pupils, he knew in his gut that the student-pupil relationship was on the way, (if not already) to being something more. And in that moment he felt his heart drop.
Derek was standing just a little too close, smiling a little too bright, and that look in his eyes, he had only seen that look staring back at him. He knew this was the beginning of something.
He approached them, heading to the elevator. Head down barely looking up, although he did notice the both of them were drenched in sweat. Derek was the first to speak.
"Hey Spencer, this is Chris one of my self-defense students. Chris this is a colleague of mine Dr. Spencer Reid."
Spencer put on a brave face all be it strained, "Hello, nice to meet you."
"You as well. Derek has mentioned you quite often. Good to finally put a face to the name."
"Well, it looks like you two have had quite the work out."
"Oh yeah. Derek really knows how to wear a guy out." Chris remarked.
"Yes. I'm very much aware." Spencer smirked.
Miraculously Derek managed to keep a relatively straight face with all the innuendo in the air.
The elevator dinged. They were at the ground floor. As they made their exits each going their own way. Chris turned again to say, "Again, nice meeting you."
Spencer gave a shy wave and said, "Same here. Good-night Derek."
Derek turned around and faced him, with bitter sweetness in his voice, replied.
"Good-night Pretty Boy."
He watched as Chris and Derek left together. Derek was moving on with his life and he should do the same. He could feel that things would probably never be the same between them, and after swallowing his pride a moment he realized, that maybe, just maybe, that would be OK.
