Hints of cheshxalice in here, not exactly romantic but mysterious. Based off a conspiracy theory that could possibly involve Chesh that me and my friend came up with while playing Alice: Madness Returns.
Doesn't exactly contain spoilers, but it does contain one from the beginning of Madness Returns and a quote from CHesh which I added to a bit to make sense in this fic. Don't read if you haven't played the game and want to keep some of it a mystery ;)
Her head was raised to look at the sky, her eyes following the soaring fans and their paths across the gray atmosphere. Alice heard chanting behind her, but she did not turn. Even when a familiar voice alerted her of friend's presence.
The cat said something about freedom, and those who would pay with their lives to keep it. Alice did love his captivating voice, but listening to his riddles too many times did lead to headaches. She'd had enough of those already, no need for more…
But Alice couldn't help but notice that as her memories appeared more frequently, Chesh was showing up…less frequently. She heard his riddles becoming less cryptic and much shorter than they usually were. Without meaning, it felt as if Chesh wasn't putting any effort into them. As Alice got closer and closer to the end, her dear cat seemed got farther and farther away.
Already she sensed a gap, something unnamable starting to separate them. The young woman couldn't help but wish that, in the back of her mind, she would never come to the end. Because what she'd find there might just be scarier than her nightmares…
Her mind suddenly flashed back to the cats' shredded picture, which she seemed to be remembering often. Another one of his riddles accompanied the memory, his voice so realistic in her thoughts that it sounded as if he was really there.
"Every picture tells a story Alice, sometimes we don't like the ending, sometimes we don't understand it…but sometimes, we don't want to find it out at all…"
For a reason that had nothing to do with the cold, she shivered.
