The Princess Bride: Epilogues
Angst-y
'Twas the night after Buttercup's semi-wedding and the daring escape from the Florin castle. She now rested comfortably on a bed of leaves next to Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik, each on their own pad of foliage. The sun was just beginning to appear from beneath the eastern horizon when Westley awoke to a frantic rustle of leaves. He shot up just in time to see two guards just finishing off Inigo and Fezzik. With eyes wide from shock, he looked up to find five horses: two lacked riders, two had two more guards, and the last hosted Prince Humperdink. Humperdink met Westley's glare. "They owed me money," he justified his action.
Buttercup was awoken by a voice she had hoped never to hear again. She rose to find Westley standing before Humperdink and crew, two of which were searching the limp Inigo and Fezzik for valuables. Humperdink had climbed down from his perch, and now drew his sword as one guard revealed to Westley that he had stolen Westley's sword while the latter was still asleep. "You have committed an offence against the crown," Humperdink was reminding her true love. "You know the payment for that." Unfortunately, so did Buttercup. Westley's back was to the girl, so she rushed up behind him with a desperate "NO!" By the time she reached him, Humperdink's sword was already headed towards Westley's chest at full force. Westley's loving eyes met Buttercup's in the peaceful split second before the metal met flesh. In one terrible instant, the sword skewered the lovers through their hearts, ending the bittersweet saga of Westley and Buttercup's quest for happiness.
The End
Happy
Westley and Buttercup were married the next day and lived happily ever after.
On the same day, Inigo and Fezzik began their careers as Pirates. Also, the prince was assassinated and a democracy was instituted in Florin.
Everybody was happy.
