Rachel and Kirsty had a secret. They were friends with the fairies!

For example, they made friends with Holly the Christmas Fairy. Together, the three of them had saved Christmas!

You see, the nasty Jack Frost had stolen Santa's presents and scattered them all over the human world! And by "all over the world", I mean he put them in locations that extremely close to Rachel's house. It took ninety pages, but our heroes managed to get the presents back.

Now they were in the Fairy Land Castle, meeting with King Oberon and Queen Titania.

"Thank you, girls," King Oberon said. "You have saved Christmas!"

"It was our pleasure, your majesty," Holly said.

"We have a special reward for you!" Queen Titania said.

Holly, Rachel and Kirsty all looked surprised at each other. They never expected to get a reward for saving Christmas!

"It's a present for each of you!" King Oberon said, pulling out three boxes wrapped in gold.

Holly opened hers first. Inside was a sparkly new wand.

"Oh, thank you!" she said happily.

"That wand has extra magic, so next Christmas, you can spread even more joy and cheer than normal," King Oberon said.

Rachel opened her present next. Inside was a beautiful fairy doll.

"This doll gives off real glitter," Queen Titania said. "You can put it on top of your Christmas tree!"

"This is great! Thanks!" Rachel said.

Kirsty looked at her present. Unlike the others, this one was somewhat sloppy. The wrapping was falling off in places, tape was everywhere, and the ribbon looked suspiciously like toilet paper.

"Ha ha," Kirsty said. "Mine looks like a goblin made it! That's funny!"

Rachel started laughing with her, while the fairy king and queen looked nervous. "Um, Kirsty, maybe you should open that gift at home..." King Oberon began to say.

He was too late. Kirsty opened her present and found a misshapen lump of fabric inside.

"What's this?" she asked.

"It's a pot holder," Queen Titania said. "You can put your pots on it."

Kirsty's face fell. "But I don't have any pots," she said.

"Maybe someone will get you one for Christmas," King Oberon said.

"I don't understand," Kirsty said. "You got Holly a new wand, you got Rachel a pretty doll, and you got me...a pot holder?"

"It's...um...a magic pot holder!" Queen Titania said quickly. "Filled with fairy friendship and unicorn hairs!"

Kirsty turned the pot holder over and saw the price tag. It came from the half-price bin at the dollar store.

"I don't believe this!" Kirsty said. "You bought me the cheapest thing you could find, didn't you?!"

"Hey, be happy we got you anything at all," King Oberon said.

"I got something for you, too!" Kirsty said, baring her fists. "How about a black eye?"

Rachel put a comforting arm on her best friend's shoulder. "Kirsty, please don't make a scene," she said.

"Forget that! These fairies treat us like their personal slaves, sending us all over the world to get their lost items!" Kirsty said angrily. "And they go out of their way to insult me on Christmas? They're nothing but big meanies!"

"King Oberon and Queen Titania are nice," Holly said. "They got me a pretty wand!"

Kirsty grabbed Holly's wand and broke it in half. She threw one part at the king and one part at the queen.

"Come on, let's go home," Kirsty said, stomping out of the throne room. Rachel smiled apologetically at the fairies as she followed her fellow human outside.

Yes, it had been a magical adventure. Yes, Rachel and Kirsty had saved Christmas. But Kirsty now had a new secret. She was no longer friends with the fairies.
