This story was written because I felt the need to write a fic around one line. I'd been trying it in other fandoms, but it just seemed to fit more in the BtVS fandom. The line is "Pain is an unavoidable side effect" from...some episode of Carnivale. Hope you like.

laugh at the dumbfounded look on his face. "Painful." He muttered. Dawn stood from the cough, stretching. "That's what
love is, Andrew. Pain." Andrew smirked at her. "Then I'll just find a way to avoid it." Dawn hesitated, staring at him.
"How?" "I'll never fall in love." Dawn smiled at his naivete, then once again took her place on the couch. "Can I tell you
something." Andrew nodded and Dawn leaned over and kissed him. Slowly she parted his lips with her tongue and she
could feel him sigh. Finally she pulled back. "Pain is an unavoidable side effect."
