Desert Wind Ranch:
Chapter one:
Sand blew in our faces as we drove across the Arizona desert. Big bright blue sky's, miles and miles of land to ride on, but the heat was unbearable. Me and my sister, Rachel, and my mom were going to live with our grandpas at their ranch, Desert Sand Ranch.
The place that used to be my mothers home, and now it will be mine. Rachel coughed beside me as the sand hit our faces again. "Ugh, I hate this weather." Rachel muttered. "Well, get used to it...it's gonna be our home now." I replied.
Me and my sister Rachel were very different. Rachel was tall, had dirty blond hair and baby blue eyes with a feisty personality, while I was short, had pure blond hair and blue green eyes with a calm personality. Usually, Rachel doesn't think before she does while I do. "I guess I could get used to wearing a cowboy hat." She joked. I laughed beside her. Soon the car stopped. "Where are we?" Rachel asked. The place was so familiar, like I've been here before. "Desert Wind Ranch." I whispered.
"Grandpa!" we all yelled as a man with grey hair came out of the Mexican-styled house. "Hey kiddos, how are we doing?" He asked. He took out three straw cowboy hats and placed them on our heads. "For protection." He said. "Wait a minute, what about sunscreen?" I ask him. He looked taken aback because I said that but replied, "Sunscreen? We don't use sunscreen around here!" He exclaimed.
We all laughed at his comment. "Did I miss anything?" A voice said. I looked up and a grey haired woman came towards us. "Grandma, we've missed you!" My mom said pulling her into a hug. "Well come on! Lets get inside before it gets even hotter!" Grandpa said. He took our suitcases inside and when we opened the door it looked amazing.
There wasn't any tv but there was a whole bookcase filled with horse books and pictures. The living room was decorated with bright colours. Red, orange yellow were everywhere. "Your bedrooms are down the hall, You and Amy will be sharing a room." Grandma said to us.
Me and Rachel looked at each other and ran down the hall, dragging our suitcases behind us. I pushed open the door and saw burst of powder blue. There was a wooden bunk bed with thin covers and two desks and a small closet. I turn to Rachel. "Do you want the top or bottom?" I ask her. "Top." She replies quickly.
"Obvious." I mumbled. I opened up my suitcase and started unpacking my clothes. "I wonder what dads doing." Rachel whispered. "Drinking probably." I reply. Our dad has a huge drinking problem that only started last month and when my mom got hit by him, we decided to move out. I take out my pillows and put them neatly on the bed and I prop pictures of our family on the bedside table. It was finally starting to feel like home.
