Natsuki Kuga was having a battle with Reito Kanzaki. They had been battling outside for a half hour and Natsuki was ready for the fight to be over. She sternly said, "You better give up."
Reito replied, "I have no reason to give up."
Natsuki said, "If you don't give up you'll likely get hurt."
Reito laughed like a villain and replied, "Yeah right. I've been winning this fight."
Natsuki said, "You're a big liar. I've managed to punch you five times and you only punched me once."
Reito felt embarrassed by his lack of success. He said, "I'm not sure how I'm supposed to stop you."
Natsuki responded, "Give up."
Reito thought about what to do. He had a sneaky smile on his face while saying, "I'll call off the fight, but I do have one more surprise for you."
Natsuki sternly asked, "What is it?" Reito blasted Natsuki, but the blast didn't hurt her at all.
Shizuru Fujino ran up to Natsuki and asked, "Did that dumb jerk hurt you?"
Natsuki answered, "No."
Reito laughed and said, "The blast wasn't supposed to hurt you."
Natsuki angrily asked, "What was the purpose of the blast?"
Reito smiled and said, "To take away your memories. When you wake up tomorrow you won't remember anything that's happened in the past year." He ran away while laughing.
The next day Natsuki woke up. She looked at herself in the mirror and was surprised by how she looked. Because she forgot about what happened in the past year she was surprised to see that she looked a year older. It wasn't a huge difference, but it was enough to surprise her.
Natsuki looked at her calendar. The calendar was for the present year, but Natsuki thought it was a year too far because of her bad memory.
Natsuki's mom walked in and said, "Hi Natsuki. Shizuru mentioned that you might lose your memory of what happened in the past year. Has that happened?"
Natsuki nervously said, "I don't know what's happening. My calendar is for next year instead of this year."
Natsuki's mom looked at the calendar and said, "It's for the right year. You've lost your memories of the past three hundred sixty five days."
Natsuki asked, "Did I forget anything important?"
Natsuki's mom answered, "Um, Shizuru will be here soon to explain everything. Toodles."
Natsuki's mom walked out of the bedroom and explained to the dad what was happening. The mom said, "This is pretty sad news."
The dad smiled and said, "This is actually good news."
The mom asked, "Why do you think that?"
The dad answered, "Since she forgot about all the presents we've gotten for her in the past year we can take them back and get tons of refunds. My receipt saving hobby has finally gotten the ultimate payoff."
Natsuki's phone rang. She picked up the phone and asked, "What's going on?"
Reito said, "Greetings Natsuki. I'm hoping that you have memories of me."
Natsuki replied, "Um, hi Reito. Do you know what happened to me?"
Reito said, "I sure do."
Natsuki replied, "Please explain it to me."
Reito responded, "I won't do that."
Natsuki asked, "Why not?"
Reito answered, "Because that would ruin my master plan."
Natsuki asked, "Aren't you and I allies?"
Reito answered, "You're dumb and that's thanks to the success of my plan." After he got off the phone with Natsuki he said, "My plan is working so well. Her precious memories of the previous will always be gone."
Shizuru walked into Natsuki's room and said, "Hi sweetheart."
Natsuki responded, "Um, hi Shizuru. I feel like I really did forget about what happened to me during the past three hundred sixty five days."
Shizuru said, "Don't worry my dear. We're going to be okay." She started holding Natsuki's hand.
Natsuki asked, "Why are you acting so lovey dovey?"
Shizuru paused and realized that she had been dating Natsuki for less than a year. Because of that Natsuki still thought they were just friends. Shizuru said, "I have news about what happened during the past year, but it's really big."
Natsuki asked, "What happened?"
Shizuru answered, "You and I started dating."
Natsuki screamed, "What?!"
Shizuru said, "I know that it seems like something that wouldn't happen, but I assure you that it's true."
Natsuki replied, "Come on Shizuru. We're good friends, but you and I wouldn't date each other."
Shizuru responded, "But we have."
Natsuki said, "I don't remember what's happened in the past year so there's no way I can trust you."
Shizuru asked, "Don't you trust me?"
Natsuki answered, "It's hard to believe something like that for evidence. I don't even remember my holiday presents from last year." Natsuki's dad walked in, took away, the presents, and walked out.
Shizuru walked around the room and said, "I have evidence that you like me in this very room."
Natsuki asked, "What evidence is there?"
Shizuru answered, "Look around the room."
Natsuki looked around and saw that her room was filled with brighter colors, cute stuffed animals, and tons of upbeat stuff that she didn't used to have. She said, "This room looks a lot more sweet than it used to, but how does this count as evidence?"
Shizuru said, "This is mostly stuff that I've gotten for you. After we started dating we both became happier. You were so happy that you wanted to leave behind the dark and cynical stuff that you used to have for more happier things."
Natsuki responded, "I'm still feeling fuzzy about my memories."
Shizuru got out Natsuki's photo album and said, "Look at the pictures from the previous year. You'll see a lot of my best memories."
Natsuki looked at the photo album and saw pictures of her first date with Shizuru, their first kiss, and lots of other happy memories. Seeing so many heartfelt pictures reminded Natsuki of her and Shizuru's relationship. She started having tears go down her eyes.
Shizuru asked, "What's wrong darling?"
Natsuki answered, "I can't believe I forgot about the best year of my life."
Shizuru hugged Natsuki and said, "It's not your fault at all."
Natsuki asked, "How did I lose my memories?"
Shizuru answered, "Reito used one of his magic potions to take away your memories of the past year."
Natsuki asked, "Why would he do that?"
Shizuru answered, "You're a lot better at fighting than he is. That sneaky punk was running out of ideas."
Natsuki said, "His plan was effective though. I would of forgotten the new happiness that I've gotten from dating you. Thank you bringing back memories that I want to have forever."
Shizuru asked, "Do you have your memories about what happened during the past year back?"
Natsuki said, "I'm still struggling to remember most of it, but I now remember the best thing that happened to me during the past year: falling in love with you."
Shizuru smiled and asked, "So we can keep dating?"
Natsuki smiled back and answered, "We never broke up. I only forgot about my memories of you for half a day. That was enough time to remember how much better my life's gotten thanks to you. My memory likely won't be the best for a while. It may take me a while to remember all the dates and all the special moments that we've had together, but I assure you that I'll work hard to remember every important moment that we've had."
Shizuru blushed and asked, "Do you have any memories of the time we went to the dance?"
Natsuki said, "I do. I remember being nervous to kiss you at the dance, but after I did it felt like a magical moment. I remember feeling nervous in general about us dating, but it turned out to be wonderful."
Shizuru said, "I'm grateful for that, because the past few months that I've spent with you have been the best times of my life. I'll help you catch up to the rest of what happened during the previous year."
Natsuki replied, "Okay, but can we just focus on the present for now?"
Shizuru smiled and said, "Okay darling."
Natsuki and Shizuru held hands and stared at the beautiful sky outside. However many memories Natsuki did have didn't matter right now, because she was feeling a special type of happiness that she knew that she wouldn't forget. Even the most effective kind of memory erasing spells couldn't stop Natsuki and Shizuru from being in love with each other.
