So, I went to Cardiff for the first time ever today and got my parents to stop off at Roald Dahl Plass so I could see the Water Tower and The Millennium Centre and The Ianto Jones Memorial. The first time we drove past when looking for a parking space, I can honestly say I laughed and then cried just a little out of excitement. And then, standing outside the Millennium Centre and next to The Water Tower, I got inspired to write this, because it's really quite difficult to work out which stone is which once you get there, and it must be easy to get them confused... so this is a one-shot based on and inspired by this idea. Please review! :)
"We should seriously find a different secret entrance," Owen scowled and pulled his jacket tighter around his body as he waited impatiently for the concrete slab to move.
"Owen," Jack started as he walked in the direction of the younger man.
"No, Harkness," Owen cut him off. "I'm not in the bloody mood, alright? You drag me out into the cold and dark on a miserable January evening… well, it's almost bloody midnight now, so morning, to hunt a weevil that turned out to be a stray cat-"
"It was an easy mistake to make," Jack shrugged with a sheepish smile.
"And then we get back to the freaking 'invisible lift' next to the water tower and it doesn't even work!" Owen ranted, ignoring Jack's comment.
"The thing is, Owen," Jack tried again.
"No, Jack, I don't care!" Owen snapped. "What use is having an entrance that doesn't work? Is the perception filter still even working or am I just stood here looking like an idiot waiting for something to happen?"
"What do you propose we have instead, Owen?" Jack sighed, crossing his arms across his chest.
"I don't know," Owen ran a hand through his hair. "Maybe a transportation ray like on Star Trek? Or a set of steps that appear after the freaking slab moves? Or how about just a freaking lift that bloody works?" Owen turned around and kicked out at the water tower in frustration. A woman passing by shot him a wary look and sped up slightly, staring over her shoulder at them as she went.
"Evening," Jack greeted her with a half wave before turning back to the irritated medic.
"Owen," Jack called calmly.
"What?" Owen scowled back.
"You're standing on the wrong slab," Jack pointed out. Owen slowly turned his stare from the water tower to the ground and shuffled to the left slightly. Jack tried to conceal his grin as he stepped on next to him.
"Shut up," Owen muttered as the slab whirred into motion and slowly sank downwards. Jack smirked and nodded once.
"Okay," He replied.
Owen narrowed his eyes at the floor. "They all look bloody similar anyway."
A/N: Poor Owen. He has a point though.
If there are spelling/grammar mistakes, please feel free to tell me, and please review now you've taken the time to read it through to the end! Although, please don't just criticise... Disguise it as constructive criticism, much nicer to read and much more helpful :) Thanks for reading!
