"Hey, Hanai!" Tajima called from across the corridor. Hanai felt relief rush through him. He was worried that he was at the wrong entrance, or was at the wrong meeting point. He shouldn't have, and he knew it, but Tajima just made him so damn nervous.
Hanai grinned. "Hello, Tajima," He said calmly, waiting for the shorter boy to catch up with him. While he himself was dressed in a sweater vest over a dress shirt, Tajima was wearing a sloppily put on button down. Hanai didn't want to acknowledge that that style definitely suited him well.
He tried to calm the nervous butterflies flitting around the pit of his stomach whilst Tajima started to empathetically talk about his brother's game the previous weekend. Hanai tried to listen, he really did, but he was getting distracted by the way his nose crinkled when he smiled, or the little wiggles Tajima's ears would do whenever he made a confused face. He kept picking up these random details about the shorter boy, but still stored them away nonetheless.
Right now, they were just walking aimlessly around the mall. In the middle of his statement, Tajima just stopped talking and asked, "You're not listening, are you?" Despite the questions threatening nature, there wasn't any venom behind it. In fact, he was smiling. Hanai felt his cheeks flush.
"Of course I'm listening. You have no faith in me," He said huffily. Smirking, Tajima responded, "Oh yeah What was the last thing I said?"
"Uh…"
"I thought so."
"Shut up."
Tajima complied with his request, instead continuing to walk with him with a big grin on his face. When they past the food court, he couldn't keep himself silent.
"Do you want to grab some food?" He asked. Hanai nodded. They were ordering their usual, when they both reached for their wallets.
Before they started arguing, Tajima held out his hand. "I pay for the food, you can buy me a present."
Hanai grumbled a little about, "Even though that's fair, you don't have to be so demanding about it." The cashier they were at smiled a little, one of those 'You two don't know how cute you are' smiles. She took his money, and set up their food.
So Hanai grabbed the tray, and walked it to a free table. They ate, keeping up a fairly normal flow of conversation, from things like the new art teacher who totally had a thing for their principle, or the ungodly amount of math homework they were assigned.
They finished the last few bites of their meal. Tajima threw their trash and, still slurping on his soda. He slipped his hand into Hanai's.
The tall boy felt blood rush to his cheeks. He didn't mind it too much, except it made his nervousness flare up.
"You're cute when you blush," Tajima said with a smile. He lightly pecked Hanai on the cheek.
Hanai felt electricity zing up from that spot on his face. He was sure he was bright as a cherry by this point.
"Yeah, well, you're cute all the time." Hanai cringed at his choice of comebacks.
Tajima sighed. "Well, it's the thought that counts."
This was going to be a long date, but Hanai was still looking forward to every second of it.
