"Incendio!" Fred Weasley said decisively as a streak of flame from his wand set a bunch of Filibuster Fireworks alight. Ruby and I clapped when they zoomed into the air and formed the shape of an oriental dragon.
"Got them as a Chinese New Year offer. Amazing, aren't they?' Fred remarked. "Penny, what do you think?"
"Oh, I love them." I adored everything to do with this occasion. Chinese lanterns instead of candles, everyone clad in traditional costumes of their house colour….it was simply wonderful.
At that moment, Professor McGonagall entered the Ravenclaw common room. Conjuring two paperclips, I Transfigured them into mandarin oranges to show off my magical prowess. "Happy New Year!" I presented the oranges to her with a bow.
"Good job, Pandora. Your reward is an Ang Pow!" Our Transfiguration professor gave me a small red packet. After she left, I opened it to reveal ten Galleons. We gasped. "Wow!" Ruby squealed.
Just then, Reeny, Theeny, Iris, Nike, Artemis and Cassi entered, brandishing red packets. "Uncle Snapeykins gave us Slytherins 20 galleons each!" Cassi burst out. "Penny got ten," Ruby said as I frowned. Why did Snape always favour the Slytherins?
Next was the sumptuous feast and the talk by Dumbledore. He reminded us of the usual topics like inter-house unity. "Have a happy Chinese New Year!" he concluded, to general applause.
