A/N: This is my first published fanfiction. I hope you all like it; it's a lot different to the style I normally use. Flamers - don't bother. If you don't like this pairing, go and read a fanfic with a paring you DO like.
Wanda/Melanie one-shot.
For my fics, because I'm a music addict, I'll post a song that I relate to the chapter or fic xD
Song: The Fray - Never Say Never
---
Wanderer was an alien in a human world. She was an outcast, a parasite. The humans would never fully accept her - even Jared and Ian. Somewhere, in the back of their minds, whenever they were talking to her they had to realize she wasn't like them. Not human. They would always be on their guard around her, even if not consciously. It was completely different from talking to another soul. Of course, Wanderer was grateful that the human rebels (aside from a select few) could even speak comfortably around her - more than grateful, she was astounded. It just didn't change the fact that she, in their mind, was an invader, a destroyer of lives and minds.
Melanie, on the other hand, saw her as she was. Mel was always there in the back of her head to comfort her when things went wrong and celebrate with her when times in the caves were good. She was more soul than human, in Wanda's opinion. The very fact that Wanda could compliment Mel by saying she was as kind as a soul was proof of how amazingly accepting she was; how much she could look past the fact that they were a different species. Melanie didn't resent her one bit for taking away her freedom, and unlike the others in Jeb's caves, Wanda could talk to her about anything - from the loneliness of being a Spider to the joy of building the ice cities as a Bear. Mel had all of Wanda's memories, and vice versa. They were always there for each other as a shoulder to cry on. It was difficult for both of them, sharing a body, but because they had each other they made it through.
It was a long time before Wanderer the soul and Melanie the human realized that they were in love. When they did it came as a shock to both of them. How were to people to love, when they were sharing a body? But they didn't need a physical relationship. Being connected so closely mentally was enough. No secrets were kept. They shared thoughts, feelings and memories endlessly and dreamed of a world in which souls and humans walked hand in hand, building a future together.
A time came, as they both knew it would, when they were forced to reveal how they felt about each other. Ian, one of the others in Jeb's colony, had developed feelings of his own. Wanda was fearful of how the humans who had grown to be her family would react to the news. She knew from Melanie's memories that having any kind of relationship with another female was uncommon - even forbidden. Mel assured her that it wouldn't make the others look down on them; times had changed and a gay relationship was hardly the topic of gossip it would have been. And so, they revealed their secret.
It was taken well, on the whole. The ones that scorned it had hated Wanda in the first place, and Ian assured them that he understood, even if he couldn't help what he felt. Jamie didn't mind in the least. Kyle was comfortable enough to joke about it. If anything, Jared took it the hardest of their friends, but that was to be expected. Wanda told him Melanie had always loved him, and Jared heard the sincerity of her tone, and took some comfort in it.
Life went on.
