The preface of this story has been deleted because I've decided it was a bad idea in the first place.
It may be re-added later on, should I feel it necessary, and probably an edited version because I'm re-reading it and it's a clash against the style I'm after for this story. And that really does matter because I've worked too long on this plot to have it start out badly.
