An Iceberg Too Cold
Disclaimer: Much as I would like to, I don't own any of the Harry potter characters, that honour goes to a Ms J.K. Rowling. Lucky her. Wish I could write good stuff... mumble mumble... not fair, some people have talent... ah well.
Summary: It's a cold day at Hogwarts, and someone has a chill in their heart. It takes a hold of the unlucky one, until she can bear the cold no longer... ONE SHOT, HERMIONE'S POV.
Her footsteps crunched on the frosted gravel path, each step crackling and rustling underfoot. She blew on her hands to try and breathe a little warmth into them, but to no avail. She had left her gloves in the castle because she left in a hurry. She had felt that she just had to get out, to get away from the others, constantly telling her to 'lighten up' about schoolwork and just to 'smile'.
How could she, when every day she had to try her hardest to impress the one person that it mattered to her the most to impress? How could she smile, when deep down, her torment was ripping her heart in two? How could anyone expect her to live like a 'normal' teenager, when all the while her aim in life was to please him, the only true piece of beauty in the world, priceless and precious beyond any other possession or person in the universe?
All she wanted to do was make him happy, and to achieve that she had to work hard, to do her job and to be a perfect student in his eyes. 'Remus...', she whispered into the bitter cold air. She couldn't help it, the sound had escaped her lips before she could stop it. She suddenly realised what her life had become. An endless struggle, a fruitless battle to win the heart of someone who could never truly be hers. She felt the cold strike her deep, deep inside, and staggered to the side of the path. What had she done?
All had seemed crystal clear to her what she was doing, but in reality the glass was blurred and twisted. She felt sick, her grasp on reality slipping away from her, as if someone had pulled a scarf from in front of her eyes. She stumbled down the path blindly, and soon she found herself at the edge of the vast, blue lake. It looked so inviting, so calm and peaceful, that the girl couldn't help but feel a powerful urge to fling herself into it. Isnt that what she wanted? Peace? To be calm? To forget about all the troubles in her world, all that had made her life a downward slope. Before she knew it, she was waist deep in the icy depths. Then she was immersed up to her chin. She couldn't feel her legs, but she kept going somehow. She wanted, she needed to get to her resting place, the place where she could finally be at one with herself and all of the world ubove. She uttered no words as she was finally consumed by the lake, save one: 'Goodbye...'.
Oh jeez, worst thing anyones ever read I suppose. All this rubbish about not very imaginative suicides and whatnot. Bah. If you got this far, I applaud you, and say, 'wow, you must be really bored!' Reviews would be nice. Don't have to though. My first fic! So proud...
