A Poem of Us
*...* = Megumi
~...~ = Sanosuke
*Every step I have taken
Every tear that I've cried
Every smile I've broadened
Every breath I have sighed*
~You push me aside
you keep me at bay
but from all my love
you can't turn away.~
Megumi was shocked as she saw the only stanza of her unfinished poem upon her wall, as well as a responding stanza... in the unmistakable hand of Sagara Sanosuke. Thinking fast, she wrote,
*They've all been for you,
from deep in my heart
to show you the love
I've held from the start.*
She left the room and waited. Sure enough, thinking she had gone, Sano came in and wrote,
~You need to be loved
you need to give in
Don't be so stubborn
Being gentle's not a sin~
She giggled as he left the room. She waited, looked appropriately surprised at his response, then inscribed,
*You, baka Rooster head,
I, the stubborn fox
we've both been so stupid
our heads full of rocks.*
"Sensei!"
Megumi cursed under her breath, a curse Sano used often, to his delight, and swept from the room, leaving him to put,
~We were blind at first
hesitant in the start
We didn't see in mind
what we knew in heart~
Megumi returned, read the inscription, and swirled the brush to form the words,
*But now that's all over
we can start over anew
I can start my life
again here with you*
She then turned toward the door where Sano was rising, coming over to her slowly. He gently took her in his arms. When she didn't snap, he stooped his head and kissed her. When she responded, he thanked God for Himura Kenshin. After a last kiss, he broke to finish the poem and title it, "A Poem of Us." He signed it with a flourish and Megumi signed her own name as she read over Sano's last addition.
~Start life all over...

"Kenshin? What does HE have to do with this?!" asked Megumi.
Sano chuckled. "Hey, foxy doctor, a guy's gotta have friends."
"Yeah? Well," Megumi snuggled closer to Sano, admiring their handwriting on the wall, "THAT particular friend would do well to take his own adivce, it seems."
"Himura Kenshin is one of the most stubborn people I know... and that includes you, Fox."
"Sagara Sanosuke, you had better stop calling me that!" Megumi threatened. Sanosuke laughed at her and put his arms around her.
"Kitsune, you'd hate it if I called you Megumi."
