"Aww, come on Trick, you be Pooh, and I'll be the honey!" Pete whined, pouting from across the room.
"Pete! I told you, I don't feel like dressing up tonight, can't we just stay in and watch a movie?"
"You know Halloween is my favorite holiday and I always dress up. Stop be stubborn and pleeeease?" he whined again. He knew I would give in eventually if he continued with those adorable puppy dog eyes he had mastered so well.
"Fine. Go get the costume. I know you already have it."
He jumped up off my bed and darted into the other room, letting out a joyous "Woo-hoo!" as he went. Sometimes I could swear I was dating an 8 year old. He skipped back in holding two costumes up. One was a giant pot of honey, the other a yellow bear with a bright red shirt. I sighed.
"Want me to help you out of those clothes so you can change?" he asked with a wink.
"Not if you want us to leave this house anytime tonight!" I rolled my eyes. I grabbed the bear suite from him and turned away, "Go change. I'll meet you downstairs in a few minutes."
He stuck his tongue out at me then strolled out of my room, "We're not staying out long!" I called after him. He acted like he hadn't heard me.
I pulled the silly costume on and stared at myself in the mirror. "Oh the things you do for the people you love." I muttered to myself.
I venture downstairs and see Pete standing at the door handing candy to a bunch of squealing kids. "Why are you honey?" I hear one of them ask. "Because I'm a treat!" Pete laughed.
Ah, I got it now. We're weren't really going as Pooh and Honey, we were going as Trick and Treat. Oh the clever things this kid could do with words and plays upon them.
He shut the door and turned around with a huge grin on his face. "You're ready! Hooray!" he cheered. He darted over and gave me a quick kiss, "Let's go have some fun!"
I let him drag me (literally) out of the door and down the street, enjoying some of the costumes we saw and trying to find Andy and Joe who had agreed to meet us to walk around for a bit before heading back for a movie at our place.
"What did you say they were going to be dressed up as?" I asked Pete, yelling a bit because a group of screaming children had decided that they needed to be even louder as they walked past us.
"They didn't say…" he said as he swiveled his head across the groups of people. "There they are!" he shouted, waving his hands in the air obnoxiously to get their attention. I turned to where he was looking and saw Andy and Joe, dressed up as if they were in a rock band… so literally what they had worn to the last concert.
"You guys are original." I chuckled jokingly.
"I felt it was both funny and simple, and Andy was up for it." Joe responded. Andy just nodded and let out a little chuckle.
"You guys ready to go watch a movie?" I asked.
