What's A Soulmate?

It was late in the afternoon. Rose and her seven year old daughter, Josephine, were sitting on the couch watching a tv show. Josephine was artistic, or at least as artistic as a seven year old could be. She was also very curious, asking a lot of questions to which her mother either, had no answer to or couldn't explain what it was that her daughter had wanted to know.

Josephine looked over at her mother with her bright blue eyes. "Mommy?" She asked.

Rose turned her head and smiled at her. "Yes?"

"What's a soulmate?" Josephine asked curiously.

Rose sat there for a moment thinking of what to say. Josephine always had questions most of which, she just asked out of no where. They were just questions she thought up, that she wanted to know the answer to. No harm in that. Rose's eyes met her daughter's and she tried to explain what a soulmate was.

"Well a soulmate is a..." She paused a moment to think.

"Is a what?" Josephine asked eager to know the answer.

Rose just smiled and continued with, "A soulmate is like a best friend, but more."

Josephine just nodded to let her mother know she was listening and that she wanted to know more.

"It's the one person in the world who knows you better than anyone else.." Rose stated.

"Kind of like you know me?" Josephine asked.

Rose laughed slightly at her question. "Not exactly. A soulmate is someone who makes you a better person. Actually, they don't make you a better person, you do that yourself. Because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you'll carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did, or before anyone else would. And no matter what happens you'll always love them. Nothing could ever change that."

"Wow." Josephine said in amazement then she asked another question. "Did you have a soulmate, mommy?"

Rose just smiled trying to hide the tears that had formed in her eyes when she finished answering her daughter's question. "Yes." She replied as she let a tear escape down her cheek.

"Why are you crying?" Josephine asked sadly.

"It's nothing." Rose said quickly wiping the tear from her cheek.

Josephine moved closer to her mother and gave her a hug and asked. "What were they like? Your soulmate?"

"He was a nice man." Rose replied to her daughter's question.

"Where is he now?" Josephine asked.

That was the question Rose was hoping to avoid. He was gone. Not coming back.

Rose just stated as a tears fell down her face, "He's gone."

"What do you mean gone, mommy? Is he coming back?" Josephine asked.

Rose could only shake her head and barely say in above a whisper "No."

Josephine just sat there and watched the tears fall from her mother's eyes.

Rose slowly wiped the tears away and looked at her daughter. Her daughter gave her a hug and smiled at her.

Rose smiled at Josephine and sang "Come Josephine in my flying machine. Going up she goes..."

Josephine smiled at her mother. "My favorite song." She said.

"Mine too." Rose replied with a smile.

*Okay so I wasn't sure how to end this and I had intended on putting flashbacks of Rose and Jack, but it just didn't end up that way. I actually had intended to do some things differently with this one-shot, but as I said before, it didn't end up the way I wanted it to. :/ I love this quote from 'Dawson's Creek'. I'm planning on making a video with it eventually. Anyway I hope you all like this, dispite, what it think is, a bad ending. But never the less please review. :)*
