I don't know why, but I always like fics where Near sees or learns about L and Light having a relationship. So, that's what this is. It's AU because for whatever reason, Near is around while L is still alive and working with Light.
Thanks to Uniasus for editing, :)
As usual, I don't own Death Note and this is slash. If you don't like it, don't read it.
Kira and L are enemies. This is a fact everyone knows. It's common knowledge. They are both competing in a deadly race, each trying to kill the other first.
If you cling to the facts, like many children do their favourite toy or blanket, you would be hard pressed to explain what lay before you now.
Actually, those are the perfect words to describe this because, at this moment, L and Kira lay before you.
Entangled in blankets.
Flashes of skin visible in the predawn glow.
L's head lay on Kira's chest, his eyes closed. L is asleep, for once, but you can feel Kira's eyes on you, can see his guilty expression.
'Caught', it seems to say.
He doesn't look away when your eyes met his, however. He doesn't look for an escape. No words are spoken, because that one look tells you enough.
You turn away, not out of disgust or a refusal to see more, but out of courtesy. You are not surprised by this occurrence, but neither are you totally indifferent. Your mind runs with this. Calculating. Silent, metaphorical gears are turning.
Because you are not like so many children, clinging to absolutes and facts, you are able to accept this in stride and see that this is a natural outcome.
L has always been attracted to danger.
You know that better than most. You've seen this first hand.
You also know that you cannot tell anyone what you have seen. Although you are able to separate the emotions from your thoughts and decisions, others are not like you.
Before you close the door completely, a piercing thought strikes you. You should envy them. Their ability to love, to trust. To be together while others are lonely...
You aren't lonely, though. You cannot be lonely if you truly do not want to be with people in the first place.
And that's a fact.
