A/N: Hey people! I LOVED the new episode and for once I had a clear idea of the sort of thing I wanted to write. This was kind of inspired by a conversation between Tuesday Too and I when we discussed how much Cas has changed. Enjoy!
Castiel is a soldier
He carries out Heaven's orders swiftly and without hesitation, doing what he knows he must. Killing his brother and the little girl is terrible, but Nephilim are dangerous and Ishim is certain that that is what she is. So Castiel completes the missions because he knows it is right.
Castiel is a leader
He commands his own flight of angels with good soldiers like Balthazar and Uriel serving under him. He thinks he is a good leader, indeed, his soldiers perform admirably and always complete his orders. Angels aren't supposed to feel emotions but, if he did, Castiel is sure he would love them.
Castiel is feeling
He has lived for millennia, he has witnessed many empires grow and crumble and rebuild. He has watched and listened and learned, but he has never cared before. Angels are weapons of Heaven, they are supposed to follow orders without question. This doubt and fear that assaults him is wrong, but he feels it anyway.
Castiel is falling
He supposes he has been for a long time, he just never realised it before. He misses his wings and he misses his home and his family, but he has discovered that humans are not witless apes, that they do not deserve the angels' scorn. Living amongst them has taught him far more than he knew was even possible and he thinks that maybe his loyalty and faith has been misplaced. He fell for the Winchesters and he will keep falling if it means they are kept safe.
Castiel is lost
He does not know what is right and what is wrong anymore. The war in Heaven has cost him many good friends and he begins to wonder if it is all worth it. He thought he was doing the right thing, but the betrayed looks on Sam, Dean and Bobby's faces when they realised what he is doing made him question everything. He needs to do this to defeat Raphael, but he wonders if the other angels are right. Maybe he has fallen too far to be redeemed.
Castiel is human
He is human and it is more than he ever knew. He did not realise how lucky he was before because, even after falling and breaking, he was still a being above humans. Now he is vulnerable and weak and so very mortal. He can bleed and hurt and feel more than he would have ever thought possible. He does not envy the Winchesters their lives.
Castiel is weak
He is unable to stop Ishim from beating him, beating Dean. He was once a powerful Angel of the Lord who stood for everything and bowed to no one. Now he is... Nothing. Now he is no solider, no leader. He is no angel.
Castiel is alone
All the angels he served with are dead, many of them perishing by his own hand. Ishim and Mirabelle were wrong; he didn't just have a hand in their deaths and the Fall, he caused them. Estranged from his family and banished from Heaven, he is grateful for the Winchesters. Sam and Dean, who stand by him, who call him brother. Castiel relaxes into his chair and smiles as he sips his drink.
Cas is home
A/N: I hope you liked that! It didn't turn out like I expected and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but what writer is? Please drop me a review if you have a moment. Bye!
