Here is a little side story occurring somewhere along the journey to the Lonely Mountain. I apologize for not updating the main story, life's a tad crazy right now. In the meantime please enjoy this! Thanks for reading!

I'd wandered a bit away from the camp to get some alone time. The boys were great but their rambunctious behavior could tire one out. I found a little hilltop with a stunning view of the moon. A bird softly cooed in the trees. I began to hum softly as to not interrupt the peaceful air. As I got more comfortable the hums turned to song. "Far over the Misty Mountains cold..." My voice was a soft wave over the gently moving grass, slightly more than a whisper. The song and the moonlight was calming. "We must away, ere break of day..." I remembered the dwarves singing at the shire, how it was truly a story of their lives and gave them purpose. I trailed the song off and sat in the gentle breeze. The air was good here. "You ougt to be a minstrel" a low voice said behind me. Thorin had been there who knew how long. "You're being rather sneaky listening in on my alone time" I teased lightly trying to hide the embarrassment I was feeling. He'd probably just been looking out for me. It was one thing to sing along for fun to an upbeat tune but a whole different story to be caught singing something with your heart full in the melody. I was glad it was dark enough too hide my blush. "It is still strange to me all that you know, even to our songs. Something like that just doesn't seem possible." I knew his feelings exactly. It was still an impossible thought that I was even here, or that this place really existed at all. I let my breath out through my nose. "Do you know any more?" He asked. Now he was asking me for songs and the thought was nerve wracking until a burst of curiosity flew through me. I wondered if he'd find it familiar. "Fiery mountain beneath the moon..." could this song have been one of theirs too? I hadn't heared of them singing it anywhere before. "Her fate unknown, the Arkenstone..." Thorin was listening, intently staring at the waning moon. "Haven't seen the back of us yet, we'll fight as long as we live..." Thorin didn't stirr. "You almost know too much" he said. I wasn't sure exactly what he meant by it. We sat together in companionable silence as the night grew colder. I was ready to join the campfire and began to get up. "Wait" Thorin tossed his fur coat into my lap. "Just a little longer." I bundled the coat around myself and sighed, already much warmer. "Thank you for the song, your voice is truly alluring." I didn't really know what to say so I whispered a thanks. We sat on the hill for quite some time watching the moon move above us. Tiredness had kicked in long ago and I slowly dozed off. When I woke again I was at the fire with dwarves snoring all around and Thorin singing the soft, low tune of the Lonely Mountains. I grinned before drifting back into content sleep.
