As a kid, it always bugged the hell out of me that Violet had black hair. Where did it come from? Though as a kid, I imagined a more dramatic thing like an affair. I can't do that to the awesome couple that is Bob and Helen though. So here's my back-up headcanon.

They pulled into the driveway of a very modern looking house. Edith gulped. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she was nervous. And she couldn't put off meeting Violet's parents any longer. The tomboy looked over at her girlfriend and smiled. Violet would help her through this. They exited Violet's car, and walked to the front door.

Edith stopped just in front of the red door. "Wait, should I take my hat off?"

She peeled the pink beanie away from her hair and held the cloth in a tight fist. Violet put a hand to her mouth to hide her giggle. Her blonde hair was full of static and looked untamed.

"No, keep it on."

Edith nodded and shoved the beanie back on her head. Violet moved closer to fix the hat. They smiled at one another as Violet's hand slid down to intertwine her hand in Edith's.

The lanky teen opened the door and led them inside. "This is home." Violet said, watching her girlfriend look around.

Oddly, the front door opened to the dining room. Knick-knacks and trophies were neatly displayed on the wall and the long counter top on the other side of the room. Violet squeezed her hand before releasing her hold. As much as her parents approved of her being "different" Jack-Jack was still "too young to be exposed to that." She had warned Edith already.

The blonde teen liked the style of the room. At her house, Gru and Lucy's styles mixed to create something wholly unique. His dark and dangerous décor next to her sleek and modern furniture got strange looks from whoever Edith had brought home. She wondered if Violet would think it's weird.

"And through here is the living room." Her voice brought Edith back from her thoughts. The TV was blaring the college football game. The reclining chair closest to the TV swiveled around.

Her dad, a huge dude, gave a half wave at the two. "Hey."

"Hi! Uh, Mr. Parr."

He chuckled and stood up. Edith's jaw dropped at how built he was, "Just call me Bob." He walked over and, towering over her, extended his hand for a handshake.

"Okay." She was actually terrified that he would crush her hand. Luckily he barely did any damage. Still she cradled her hurt hand with her other.

"Don't forget about me!" Dash whined from his place sprawled out on the couch. Edith hadn't even noticed him. The first thing she noticed about the boy was how he looked exactly like his father, except he was short and lean.

Violet rolled her eyes, "That's Dash, my annoying baby brother."

Edith grinned at the furious look that passed over Dash's face. Before he could retort, Bob held up his hand.

"No arguing. The game is on." He went back to his chair, putting a bowl of popcorn in his lap. Much like the boys, the blonde was mesmerized by the game.

Violet pulled Edith out of the living room, and into the kitchen. Mrs. Parr was icing some cupcakes while listening to Violet's youngest brother rant about getting "heated" at school.

"Mom, Jack-Jack, this is Edith."

Mrs. Parr looked over at them in the doorway and smiled. "Hello honey, do you want a cupcake?"

"Yes." Edith agreed in seconds, making them laugh. She smiled at Jack-Jack, who had unruly red hair that stuck out at odd angles. She took the cupcake offered by Violet's mom, "Thanks!"

"I know you want one too, Vi."

"Maybe just one." Violet agreed, picking the one with the most icing.

Trying not to make a mess, Edith peeled back the wrapping and bit into the cupcake. She nearly snorted when she looked over and Violet had a bit of icing on her nose and in her hair. Her hair.

"Do you dye your hair?" Edith asked around the bite of cupcake still in her mouth.

Violet raised an eyebrow. "No?"

Edith's eyes narrowed. With one hand she cradled the delicious cupcake and with the other she pointed to Jack-Jack, then Mrs. Parr, and finally to the living room. The three Parr's were giving her weird looks, but the gears in her mind were turning.

"Then how?"

Violet nodded. She got asked that a lot. Linking her arm through Edith's, she led the girl back out of the kitchen. "Thanks for the food, mom!" She called back behind her.

"Food?!" Dash overheard and ran, not as fast as he could've, past them and into the kitchen.

Edith followed Violet to a closed door. The tomboy unlinked their arms and opened the door for her girlfriend.

"This is my room." The walls were painted light-blue. Her bed, which took up most of the room, had dark purple covers. Closing the door behind them, Violet then walked over to her dresser where there were framed pictures of her with family members and a couple supers.

Pointing to one of her and an older looking woman, she continued. "And this is my grandma."

Edith took a bite of cupcake as she studied the picture. The woman had laugh lines on her face and long, raven black hair that was pulled up into a pony tail. Violet's hair hid her face and Edith could tell Violet just wanted to disappear.

"When was this?" She asked after swallowing her food.

"When I was twelve." Violet then explained, "Black hair skips a generation on my mom's side. Apparently my great-great grandmother liked to keep her hair really short. They almost put her in an asylum for being too different."

Almost sensing the next question, the lanky teen continued. "It wasn't just the short hair, she liked to dress up as a man and kiss married women."

Edith laughed, loudly. Violet giggled along with her. The two calmed down after a moment, and the tomboy examined the pictures. Her head turned when Violet left her side.

The Super sat on the edge of her bed and carefully placed her half eaten cupcake behind her. "Hey, wanna watch a movie?"

"Awesome." Edith sat down beside Violet. The black hair teen picked a comedy to watch before resting her head on her girlfriend's shoulder.

Edith had managed to stuff the rest of the cupcake in her mouth as Violet asked, "So when do I get to meet your parents?"

Violet thought she was going to have to do the Heimlich on Edith to keep her from choking.

"Uhhh." She gasped for air a couple more times before replying, "Maybe never. My family is weird."

"You have no idea." Violet mumbled with a smile.

"What?"

"They wouldn't scare me away."

Edith was still hesitant but agreed, "Maybe next weekend."

Violet's silky black hair proved far more entertaining to Edith than the movie she should have been watching. The tomboy sat on her girlfriend's bed with her back against the headboard; Violet's head lay on her lap.

Edith brought her hand through Violet's hair, amazed that the long hair didn't tangle. Smoothly, her fingers traveled halfway down her girlfriend's back. Her fingertips lightly teased the taller teen's back, every other time she would twitch in protest to the action.

Violet sighed, what Edith hoped was out of contentment, and nuzzled her head into the comfortable material of Edith's sweatpants. The blonde grinned and continued to play with her girlfriend's hair.

"Are you even watching the movie?" asked Violet, teasingly.

"Not really."

They giggled and soon fell into another silence. The movie, one that Edith had been forced to watch too many times by Lucy, was coming to an end. Emotional music blared from the TV, since the father fish though his son was dead and just left his companion. Just as the baby fish managed to escape into the ocean, Violet's door flew open.

The movement startled Edith. Her reflexive jump made Violet look away from the movie and towards the door. In the doorway, Dash was smirking at the two.

"Dinner is ready…" he said slowly, his smirk giving way to a grin.

"Okay, we'll be there." Violet answered tensely.

Dash rocked on his heels, hands behind his back. "So… Not getting too cozy, right? You know the rules."

Violet sat up so fast Edith had to jerk back to avoid them headbutting. After turning bright red, Violet roared, "Dash! Shut up!"

He held his hands up in surrender. "Jeez! Calm down, Vi."

She huffed, but then her expression turned curious. "What are we having for dinner anyways?"

"Lasagna!" He had a dreamy look in his eyes.

"Tell Mom we'll be there in a minute."

Dash shrugged and ran, it didn't feel like a run to him but guests in the house and all, back down the hall.

Edith slid off the bed and stretched her arms above her head. Looking down at her girlfriend, who had her legs folded underneath her on the bed, she asked"Is it cool having two younger brothers?"

Violet hmm-ed in thought. "I guess." She said with a shrug. A loud thump and then the delicate shattering of glass echoed into the room. Edith winced in pity for whoever broke something. Both brothers were shouting at once, no doubt accusing the other.

"Your little sister is probably a lot easier to handle then those two clowns." She jerked her thumb up, to point behind her.

Edith nodded quickly. Violet giggled and climbed off the bed. Their hands gravitated towards each other's.

The blonde was led out of the room. Violet chatted easily about her mother's cooking and how after all these years you'd think she'd be better. Edith had almost thought of a decent response when they passed the living room. From the corner of her eye, she thought she saw Jack-Jack picking up the shards of glass on the floor with his bare hands. Time seemed to slow down.

As she did a double take, Jack-Jack swore loudly and turned so his back was to them. Violet had to practically drag her to the kitchen.

"Woah, woah. Aren't you worried about your brother? He could hurt himself or something!"

Violet giggled and pretended to not know what she was talking about. "My brother isn't that dumb, he had gloves on."

Edith almost continued to argue, but they neared the kitchen and could hear the matriarch scolding her son.

"Dash, I don't want to hear it. You should go help your brother. I'm sure your just as much to blame."

"Do what your mother says," Bob offered helpfully from his place in front of the steaming lasagna. He was in the process of transferring nearly half of the lasagna onto his plate.

"Thanks Bob." One could nearly hear the eye roll that followed her statement.

Dash had his shoulders slumped and his hands in his pockets as he trudged out of the room to help his brother. Edith repressed a giggle as she and her girlfriend entered the kitchen just in time to see Mr. Parr being scolded by his wife.

"Bob! You could at least save some for the kids!"

"Maybe you ought to cook more! It's delicious!"

Helen threw her hands up in the air, "You're going to gain all that weight back, ya know."

"You'd love me anyway." Bob grumbled as he took his huge plate of lasagna and went to sit in the dinning room.

Edith had an amused grin on her face. She looked over at her girlfriend to tell her that her family was ten times more interesting, when she noticed that Violet had a hand covering her face.

"Vi?"

"They're so embarrassing!" she whined, giggling despite herself.

"We haven't even started." said Jack-Jack from behind them, making them turn to face him. He grinned evilly, "Hey Mom! Where do you keep Vi's baby pictures?"

Helen laughed at the look of horror that passed over her daughter's face. "Jack-Jack, be nice to your sister."

The teens lined up and helped themselves to the remaining batch of lasagna.

Edith followed Violet back to the dinning room and took a seat beside her. Silverware and a glass of water were awaiting her.

"So Edith," Bob asked in between bites, "Are you two in the same class?"

The blonde teen nodded quickly, "We are lab partners in Chemistry."

"So you're the girl that nearly blew up lab?" asked Dash before he shoved a large chunk of lasagna in his mouth.

"Heh... He left the sodium metal on the counter!" She explained defensively.

Violet giggled and rested a hand on her thigh underneath the table. Edith nearly jumped out of her seat at the contact.

"Are you in any other classes together?" Helen asked, smiling at how cute the two girls were acting.

Edith had to actually stop and think. "Uh... No. That's our only class."

"We see each other between classes though." Violet added, wiping her mouth with her napkin.

"I know! I see you two in the hallway and ugh!" Dash teased making a disgusted face.

Jack-Jack looked confused, which his mother noticed. Helen gave a pointed look at Dash, who raised an eyebrow.

"What?" He asked

"You know what."

He made a face that said he clearly didn't know what she was talking about.

From across the table, Violet sighed and Edith frowned.

"OH. You meant about them? Yeah, okay." He nodded in understanding, a look of success written on his face. Then it crumbled to confusion again, "Wait, what did I say?"

Bob laughed easily, "Just drop it Dash."

He huffed and continued to eat his dinner. Meanwhile Jack-Jack glared suspiciously at everyone.

Edith decided to change the subject, "Dash, you're on the track team right? How easy would it be for me to join shot put?"

Violet raised an eyebrow at the question, but smiled in thanks nonetheless.

Dinner continued almost tensely, especially since the youngest brother refused to say anything. His friendly demeanor had washed away. Now his eyes were colder, more calculating as he studied his family and the guest.

Edith never thought she'd want to end a date early. The blonde wasn't used to such an awkward atmosphere. At her house, they talked about everything... Seeing a family attempting to be so normal was weird. The Parrs were anything but normal, she could understand that much.

One by one, the Parrs went their separate ways from the dinning room, until it was finally just Edith and Violet.

"I'm sorry," She apologized meekly.

Edith shrugged. "You're family is pretty awesome besides... that."

That. Keeping it a secret.

Violet stood and pulled her into a hug, hoping that her family hadn't scared off the shorter teen. After a moment, arms wrapped around in response. They stayed in each other's arms, content to end the date on a better note.

Finally, Edith pulled away and looked out the window. The black haired teen understood.

"I'm taking Edith back home!" Violet called out.

The clang of dishes echoed into the room. "Be careful honey!"

Before they could exit the house, Jack-Jack jogged into the room.

"Wait," He looked at the two girls and smiled sadly, "I'm sorry that they're being stupid. I guess they don't understand genetics." He jerked his head back to indicate the rest of his family.

"What?" asked Edith.

"You two are cute together." He said with a grin. "I hope next dinner isn't like this one. I'd actually like to hear about how the two of you got together..."

Edith loved how brightly Violet smiled at her brother. She reached over, he was about the same height as her, and ruffled his red hair.

"I love you brother."

"Love you too sis."
