Er... I wrote this short drabble a year ago. But! There was no Battle Royale category at the time. Either way, I'm not too proud of this story, but I figured I'd post it anyway. Woohoo. Takes place after the book.

Calm After The
Storm

They had survived the
horror. Somehow, just the two of them. But now, they were fugitives.
Was it their destiny to just keep running, and never look
back?
Noriko looked up at Shuya. They were both on a rocky boat,
heading towards America. He was fast asleep, but she found herself
unable to do so. Was this real? What that real?
Images
rushed back into her head: the shock of waking up in an unfamiliar
setting, the death of many of her classmates, and that final battle.
A shudder ran down her spine. Disbelief still ran through her. It had
been real, but in the beginning, she hadn't suspected that she'd
be one who would survive… or that Shogo would help them escape the
island. Tears welled up in her eyes.
Shuya stirred, and Noriko
tried to wipe away her tears. It had been too late, he had already
noticed.
"Ah… I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," she
said quietly.
Shaking his head, Shuya replied, "No, it's
okay." He wrapped his arm around her. She felt much safer, and
smiled at him.
"Thank you…"
He smiled. "Don't worry.
I'll protect you."
