This is my retell on how Bella told Edward that she knew he was, indeed, a vampire. She was just a little off….
Walking down the hall, to the class that I no longer dreaded but feared, I knew I had to tell him. I could almost imagine how he would smile at me, before telling me I was crazy and sending me off to a mental institution. I wasn't crazy; at least I don't think so. I am, however, too observant for my own good.
"Bella! Were you listening to me?" Jessica yipped in my ear.
"Yes." I lied.
"Then what did I say?" she piped indignantly.
"Umm..."
"Mm Hm!" She sighed and stormed away. It didn't bother me much, because I never listened to Jessica and that wasn't exactly the first time I'd been caught daydreaming while she was bantering away. I saw her stalk into biology and gulped as fear and adrenaline pumped through my veins, like a warning. I now had to face my fears. I took a deep breath and walked into the room, carefully watching my feet to make sure I didn't trip and humiliate myself. He would blame my explanation of his odd behavior on my harsh fall, and that I could guarantee. He would have no winning argument today.
"Hello." I greeted him coolly. No answer, of course. "I would like to talk to you." I said irritated. I saw his head incline in my direction to show that he was listening. "I know what you are," I whispered, "And I'm going to end you." With that, I took the pencil I had in my hand and tried to shove it through his back. He never moved, but I could see his grin. His shoulder shook with silent laughter until he couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out in a roaring laugh that scared me so bad, I ran from the room.
When I was in the hallway, I didn't stop. Keep going, I chanted in my head. Don't let him catch you! My breath came in gasps as I sprinted out to my truck and fumbled through my pockets for my keys. "Looking for something?" I heard that velvety voice ask. "No."
"I think you are." Edward said.
"I am not! I am simply rubbing my butt to keep it warm. It's too ded gum cold out here!" I said nervously. I had to keep him talking and act normal.
"All right…" He said slowly. "Then I guess you don't need the keys that you dropped, huh?"
"Yeah, dropped my butt!" I exclaimed. "You took them, didn't you?"
"Maybe." He answered sheepishly. I growled, angrier than before. He was suddenly in my face. "Did you just growl at me?" He hissed.
"Yes."
With that simple word, my life was ended.
