Delphine turned off the bathroom light and made her way back carefully through the dark apartment back to the bed where her lover lay. She pulled back the covers and slid in between the sheets, wrapping her arm around Cosima. At first she thought nothing of it but then her fingers brushed Cosima's cheek and came in contact with something wet.
Looking down she found her normally pale skin interrupted by dark patch.
Delphine bolted up again, turning Cosima onto her back.
"Cosima?!" She called, turning Cosima's head towards her.
Delphine's eyes were not adjusted to the dark but she coud see the little red drops dotted her lips and cheeks.
"No..." Delphine breathed, grabbing Cosima's wrist to check for a pulse, but all she found was more blood covering the innocent palms.
Delphine quickly moved her fingers to Cosima's neck but after not feeling the strong thump against her fingers to assure of Cosima's heartbeat she jumped out of bed. She rounded on Cosima's side and pulled the body of her lover out of the bed and laid her on the ground, clasping one hand over the other she began compressions, counting quickly as she did so, "One, two, three..."She pinched Cosima's nose and breathed into Cosima, "Come on Cosima..."
Delphine was getting desperate now and she barely held back tears, the only reason she didn't cry was because she knew she could not provide Cosima oxygen if she herself couldn't breathe.
Delphine tried again, "One, two, three, four..." Breathe. No response. "Dammit Cosima! Ne pas mourir!" She yelled in emotional pain, slamming her fist down over Cosima's heart.
Cosima's body spasmed as the electrical impulses in her body were relit. Delphine stopped, frozen and without breath as Cosima's brown eyes met hers and Cosima drew breath once more.
A string of highly distraught French flew from Delphine as she recalled how to breath and pulled Cosima into her arms, hot tears falling like a waterfall as she hugged a dazed Cosima to her tightly.
Delphine didn't care that she was getting blood smeared over her, just as long as Cosima was alive, "Oh dieu merciā¦. je t'aime Cosima, je t'aime." She repeated, holding her almost suffocatingly tight.
Cosima's arms wrapped loosely around Delphine, "I love you too Delphine."
