SUMMARY: Marti is now fourteen and her first ever boyfriend has broken up with her. She comes home in tears and confides in Derek.

Marti came home and slammed the door behind her after school one day, her eyes full of tears, threatening to fall before she arrived in her room.

Derek looked down the stairway, saw Marti, and ran down to her.

"Smarti, what's the matter?"

"Leave me alone, Derek. And don't call me 'Smarti' anymore!" And, that being said, she ran past Derek and slammed her bedroom door.

"What just happened?" Derek asked himself.

An hour later, Derek knocked on her door.

"Smarti, what happened?"

"Didn't I tell you to not call me 'Smarti' anymore? And I don't want to talk about it!"

"Ok, Marti, what's wrong?"

"I don't want to talk about it!"

"Marti…"

"Billy broke up with me!" She cried as she knew that she would never win an argument with Derek.

"What? Why would he break up with a great kid like you?"

"Because he said I'm too much like a kid! That's why I told you to not call me 'Smarti' anymore. It's too kiddy!"

"Smarti, if Billy broke up with you, that's his loss."

"No. I don't want to live anymore. He was perfect!"

"Smarti… Don't ever say that! You're a great person. And like I said, it's his loss."

He wiped the tears away from her face.

"Besides, he made your pretty face all messed up with tears. He isn't worth it. You can do so much better."

"Yeah. I guess you're right. Thanks… Smerek."

"You're welcome, Smarti."

He kissed her forehead and walked out of her room.

The next day, Marti came home with a giant grin on her face.

"You look happier today."

"Yeah. I told Billy that I wanted to be friends with him, but I wouldn't date him. He said that he was sorry for what he did. Were friends again."

"That's great. I'm glad your happy now."

"All thanks to you."

A/N: This idea just popped into my head as I was realizing how much Derek is stuck up, except when it comes to Marti. I just thought it was a cute idea and typed it!
