Giving away the bride

James sighed.

It finally had come, the day he had both feared and yearned for; the day his daughter got married.

He sighed again, keeping a brave smile up for Kim, his Kimberly, who he was going to give away in a few minutes.

Kim smiled back at her father and offered her arm, then the wedding march started and they walked up the aisle.

At the end of the aisle, near the altar, stood the man Kim was going to marry; Ronald Stoppable, Kim's best, and lifetime, friend. James chuckled inwardly; how thing could go.

Father and daughter reached the end of the aisle where Ron waited, his hand extended to take over the care for Kim from her father. Letting his daughter go was the hardest, and at the same time greatest thing James had ever done.

As the bride and groom walked to the altar together, James stepped back and took his place next to his wife. Anne smiled and squeezed his hand, her eyes were filled with tears of joy.

Just when the minister was about to start the ceremony, someone tapped on James' shoulder. James turned around and saw his colleague and old school buddy Ramesh, "Possible?"

"Possible? James?"

James eyes snapped open and he looked around. Sure enough Ramesh was there, but where was the rest? Where was Kim? Where was the church?

"James?" Ramesh tried again, "you fell asleep."

"Oh, yeah… I guess I did," James was still trying to shake off his dream.

"Isn't it your turn to pick up your daughter from preschool?" Ramesh asked, "I thought you told me that this morning."

"Oh no," James jumped out of his chair, "I forgot, what time is it? I have to go."

"No problem, I can handle business here," Ramesh said, but James had already left.

"I'm sorry I'm late," James told as he run into the school building, "Where's Kimmiecub?"

"Don't worry Mr. Possible," the teacher smiled, "she went with Mrs Stoppable, Ronald's mother. Mrs Stoppable said Kim could play there until you or your wife picked her up."

"Thank you," James panted, "again, I'm sorry I was late. It won't happen again."

"I'm sure of it," the teacher chuckled, "fathers…"

"Thank you for picking up Kim," James told Ron's mother, "I had all forgotten it was my turn to pick her up."

"I wouldn't worry about it," Mrs Stoppable ensured him, "she likes playing with Ronald, I think they've been best friends since the day they met."

"Daddy!" Kim yelled happily as she ran towards her father.

"Kimmiecub," James picked up his daughter and pulled her in a hug, "I'm so sorry I forgot to pick you up."

"'Sokay," Kim told, "we've been playing house, Ron's dad built a tree house. Can I play here a little longer?"

James looked at Ron's mother, who nodded, "okay, I'll pick you up 'round dinner." He put Kim down and watched her run back to Ron, who was standing near the tree where a large tree house could be seen through the branches.

Seeing Kim run to Ron suddenly brought back his dream, and for a moment James thought he saw the aisle and the altar again.

"Are you okay," Mrs Stoppable asked worried, "you look a bit distracted."

"What? No, no, I'm fine," James forced a smile on his face, "I'll pick Kim up at dinnertime."

As he walked back to his car, James couldn't help but feel like he had had some sort of prevision and he wondered what kind of surprises the future would have in stock.
